Constantly On Edge

Thanks for the supportive replies. It's helping me to see that yet again I have been far too easygoing with respect to setting my own boundaries and limits.

I never ever watch horrors - I just can't even handle the thought of them. Thrillers rarely, depending on the specific nature. My go to is usually comedy which suits me fine as it generally relaxes me and takes my mind off more serious things.

I just wish there wasn't so much I felt the need to avoid. My partner is always acting like I'm the weirdest person ever not being up to date with the news. I read the health supplements etc. But there was a huge landmark case going on over here the past few months which the media wouldn't shut up about (the notorious Graham Dwyer - please don't look him up if you're at all like me) and I felt like I was going to fall apart anytime I heard anymore of his crimes in the media hype. Not to mention everyone at work were obsessively following his trial and sentencing. I guess criminology is interesting to people who haven't been victims. Like I never get the whole CSI, law and order show deal.

I do want to be able to work at being able to try to better relax in general though. Even my bed is a stressor unfortunately. Night time is a big trigger though as I never got much night time peace during my traumas. I guess it has left me living in constant fear of what may happen if I let my guard down and fall asleep.

I went through a stage of watching very messed up films with very sad endings convincing myself that it was helpful as I would feel less alone - they Really didn't help (no surprise). Sometimes sitcoms / romcoms are okay for me, sometimes they make me feel terrible.
@Beachlife09 - I agree re kids programs - that's where I start if I want to watch something.

@GWhizz
I absolutely will not have a tv in the house, and couldn't give a flying feck what some useful idiot / wind bag like George Hooke has to blather about.

there is a reason why one of the licence requirements for a radio or tv broadcaster is to put out "approved" news once an hour or so...

stay away from the news for a few weeks, or even better a few months and when you finally go back to it, you'll see it for what it is, a mix of gas lighting and propaganda.

Even the way that news reporters deliver their speech pisses me off - that's not how normal people communicate, but it is how some people alarm and manipulate others.

There is a lot of truth in this short clip from the film adaptation of Allan Moore's graphical novel "v for vendetta"

@GWhizz i watch a lot of horror and disturbing crap, though have boundaries within that genre. Thank you for saying not to look up the person you mentioned- 'cause I was heading to do just that! >.< The impulse was there to learn and the fear response had already started. I'm not always the best person for myself. <.< lol.
@Anarchy have the read "the Watchmen" graphic novel (also by Moore)?

Actually @Anarchy we only just got a TV after over 5 years without one - figured there would be educational things for our little one as he gets older... But honestly I'm now regretting it as it's losing it's purpose.

My partner is also an avid Alan Moore fan. Watchmen unfortunately is too much for me though. Again I feel silly that such fiction can be so anxiety-provoking for me.
