Hi all!

I just wanted to share something that's helped me, as it may be beneficial to others, too!

I got a small blank journal and write down all of my coping skills in it. It is really helpful because I have skills that I've learned in therapy, skills that I've learned while hospitalized, skills that I learned from a myriad of self help books on everything from CBT, DBT, PTSD, Cptsd, relationships, anxiety, etc, and putting them all in one place makes it easier to reference any given skill when I'm in a bad space.

I also add positive affirmations, and between the pages I keep pictures of myself as a child (pre-trauma). Really, you can put anything in it that helps you when you need yo get out of a difficult place.

My book is fairly small, only slightly larger than the 4"x6" photograps that I keep inside. I like that it's small because I can carry it with me if need be.

Sometimes I don't look at it for months, other times I look at it often. But having all my skills and positive affirmations is convenient in that I don't have to reference a ton of different books, as I have all my skills in one place.

I already have a ton of skills in my book but it's only about half full. I add to it whenever I find something new and beneficial.

Anyway, I just wanted to share something that helps me. I hope it helps someone else, too.

Hugs,
SOL

Oh you mean keep all your skills on your phone? That's a good idea!

I love my iPhone, but I still do certain things the "old-fashioned" way... Like I still have a daily planner book cuz I like it better than inputting my life into my phone. Maybe one day I'll make the jump to doing everything with technology!

You just made me think of an app I added recently to my phone. Take a look at the discussion area - I just started a thread about it. Might be worth adding to that "toolbox".

I still have a handwritten notebook that I keep on me, it just never occurred to me to put PTSD stuff in it. Usually it's filled with book titles that I want to check out, or a gift idea for someone that I don't want to forget, or the million other things that go flying out of my brain at l ightening speed if I don't write them down. I've got the little "moleskin" notebooks from Barnes and Noble. Might need to designate one for PTSD stuff. :)

This is a good idea and I am going to try it out! I always carry a journal with my to write about my journals/thoughts. But I am going to get a separate one for the coping skills like you mentioned and have it with me.
