Emotional Intelligence

I have been having a hard time expressing my emotions and having simple communication. This is leaving my wife frustrated, angry and sometimes hurt. I don't want her to feel this way as I don't want our marriage to be in crisis or non-joyful.

Last night was rough for us. She stayed up late to find something that could help us be better at understanding our emotions so we can communicate better.

She found this website that does just that. It is an amazing site that teaches you how to change your thought process and how to understand what your emotions are and how to react to them.

I want to share the website because I feel it would be helpful for many here:
http://www.helpguide.org/emotional-intelligence-toolkit/index.htm

Here is a good description:

What is emotional intelligence?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand, manage, and express your emotions in healthy and constructive ways. It’s also about recognizing and responding appropriately to the emotions of others.

Yup, most of the time I have historically had good emotional intelligence, but the PTSD destroyed that initially and at times still does. I'm book marking this website so I can come back to it later and read it.

What I have read so far has already been helpful. My wife became upset and I sat with scared emotion. I just kept myself in the moment reminding myself that she was upset at a situation and not me. I do not need to fix anything, just allow her to express her emotions in the way that makes her feel better.

I hope people find it helpful

I've had a quick look, mainly motivated by my concerns. "What are they selling? What's the angle? What's the hidden agenda? Is it good advice?"

The bits of advice that I've read seem good. I noticed a warning next to a meditation exercise that I found reassuring (meditation does carry some risks). It's presented differently to cult propaganda and seems unlikely to be trying to attract worshippers. I did not find any evidence of 'bait and switch' commercial offers.

Nothing is perfectly safe, but this looks useful, and is unlikely to hurt someone who reads from the beginning, in sequence.

Videos and audio files not reviewed.

The organisation is ok... they're agenda is purely to help people. As for reading material... reading their material is no different than reading material here... you take what works for you, you leave the rest. Nothing is fool proof online, and nothing is guaranteed accurate, even if referenced, as things constantly change.

It is from a nonprofit organization. We figured it might have helpful information.

And it seems pretty good. Had you linked to the Church of Scientology (which is a non-profit entity), I'd have written differently. Under the circumstances, I wrote the most positive thing my paranoid mood would allow.

As Anthony said, if people leave their brains on, they ought to be fine.
