I have done a selfdefense course/ boxing with a female teacher but always avoided males. I never had a...

Look, my current man is a professional martial art master and provide training. He's the sweetest man I know. He would never abuse his ability, he rather teaches self-defense to men as women. It's however important to find someone calm you feel you can trust. Perhaps you could spend time watching him, how he's like a coach before you try with him.
