This afternoon, I started my research on SAD lightbox, in preparation of my meeting with my nurse practitioner, on Thursday morning. Sadly, I feel like, I have dived into the deep end of the pool, without knowing, how to swim. Can someone give me, a primer, on what I should be looking for, in a SAD lightbox? Am wondering, how do I find a brick and mortar store, close to me, so I don't have to order over the internet, as my financial tools are limited.

You need something with a minimum of 2,500 lux (I think), most proper SAD lamps are around 10,000. I have a small desktop lamp, a Lifemax Light Pod. I bought it online though. I'd guess somewhere like a large pharmacy might sell them? Depends where you live maybe.

Here are some that at least you could look at the reviews at. Posted it in the conversation we were having. I think verilux was the one that went haywire on me, but it could just have been that particular one and not a sign of all of them.

I like being able to read reviews to get a better idea of things.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions and sites, to look at. You have lessen my feeling of helpless, which is, a huge achievement for me. @DMerish , am glad, I could help someone, while seeking help for myself.:)

Before they had light boxes - I had very difficult winters. Then one winter I worked in a lighting showroom and I tell you - all that light did the trick. I don't know why they say fluorescent lights are so great. Regular lights worked for me. Of course there were a ton of them.

That said, a light box did not work for me when I eventually got one. But getting exposure to sunlight every day and having a well lit apartment did. That's only my experience. I guess they work for a lot of people. I just dislike fluorescent light intensely. That might have been the problem.

I'm so glad though you are planning ahead. It's inspiring!

@franciemarnie , I don't know, if my body can handle the fluorescent lights, given my photosensitivity, but anything beats, spending 2 to 2 1/2 months, in depression. As for brightly lit apartment, I can only dream, for bright lights hurt my eyes and trigger very nasty headaches, for me. Franciemarnie, I am glad you have found your own and unique way, to battle SAD. Just that alone, deserves a huge pat on the back. Myself, I just like to know, what I am getting myself, into, before seeing a member of my medical team.
