Awesome!! Congratulations!
I lived in supported accommodation on and off from ages 18-25. Some of the best times in amongst the really hard struggles.
What support is there for you there - ie,is there a staff member on site, if so all day or night? A manager? A household duty roster etc?
I lived with about a dozen other 'psych patients' where there was a staff member in duty 24 /7. At night, the staff would sleep, but we could wake them up if there was a problem or we needed to talk or needed extra support or meds. It was well run, everything was paid for out of our benefits and we'd get the leftovers (no financial worries or bills to sort!). We'd take turns cooking for everyone there. One night a week, in a pair, we would cook a meal for the 12-14 people. Must say it was a real confidence boost to be ABLE to pull that off once a week! Grocery shopping was fun - the staff would do it but some if us would go too. Stocking up an entire trolley with just dozens of loaves of bread :D.
Long chats in the lunge until the early hours.
Best bit -
no one judged anyone. We were all "crazy" but we were loyal and understood each other's differences. Not saying it was all fluffy ducks and great relationships all the time (we WERE all "crazy" lol). But a lot of fun as we were able to laugh at ourselves. There were water fights. We joked with each other about our illnesses and symptoms. We came to appreciate everyone's uniqueness - (not their real names) - Blair's schizophrenia and believing the Russians had a bug in his head and were stealing all his ideas; Peter's bi-polar and out of the closet feminine gayness; Glen, deaf and mute with OCD (seriously funny to have an argument with a deaf man - when he's sick of 'talking' (sign language), he'd not only close his eyes so not to 'hear' you, turn his back on you for good measure lol!). Then when some of the residents with mania got sick', it would trigger everyone else to be manic. I've never laughed so hard.
Ahh, so many cherished memories :p
If it's half as much fun for you
@Santa_Laurie it will be awesome!
