I did a stint in two group therapies but didn't vote because my reaction was either bad toward the group and good toward the moderator or good toward the group and bad toward the moderator. Neither group was for PTSD though as there is no group in my area outside of Veteran's Adminstration which I will not do.

It was an all female group---I ended up walking out in a state of panic as I get super anxious if there are no guys around.

One time I went to the movies and noticed it was all women. I freaked and scanned the theater for any guys. I found one and was ok---seemingly irrational, but women are triggering to me in groups.

I answered that I did and it went well but that was group therapy that was in patient. I couldn't imagine doing group therapy on an outpatient basis.

I answered that it went badly and it was also also not a PTSD group. It was not very well run but part of the problem was my vulnerabilities.

I was offered PTSD group treatment a couple of years ago but did not do it as I could clearly see certain of my problem areas were going to be touched on and it was likely to backfire.

I would like to aim to have group therapy at some time in the future but I have work to do before that.

I've never tried a group before and I have a feeling it won't be a great experience for me but I really want to try it and see how it goes. There's a new group starting where I see my psychiatrist but it's a DBT group geared towards people with BPD so I'm not sure how helpful it will be for me. They said it focuses on anxiety and mindfulness so I feel like it could be helpful for me also though.

Yes I did group therapy about 19 years ago. It was the difference I needed to get of the hard drugs for good. It was an outpatient program through a local recovery center and was run by a licensed counselor. It was also free.

As a teenager I had group as part of in-patient, didn't help as it was treating symptoms instead of the cause. I recently tried again with outpatient and I had to stop, I'm not ready for that. I'm going to try again, but I need to work on anxiety and my fear of humans first.

I'm still very newly diagnosed, so I haven't tried group therapy. However, at this point, it sounds impossible for me. I have just opened up to my therapist after 6 months of not disclosing, and she wasn't my first therapist. I can't see trusting a whole group of people enough to be honest, and my paranoia about what they're thinking and whether or not I can trust them would be problematic. But in theory, group could be good further down the line.

A survivor friend and I started support groups for survivors of childhood sexual abuse in 1988. It was very successful for many survivors. Lot's of great feedback and the therapists and crisis center in my area used my group format and still use it to this day.
