Hi, I'm new here. Was recently diagnosed with PTSD following a violent assault that took place in November of last year. It's still going through the legal channels so pretty hard to deal with sometimes. Was hoping to learn more about it and learn ways to get by.

Welcome...sorry that you have a reason to be here and that happened to you. I also have PTSD post a violent assault. Mine happened in a foreign country so I do not have the legal aspect, hope that you can find support here.

Welcome Padfoot :)

I am sorry for what you went through, you did not deserve any of it!

I hope you find the information you want!

Take care,
KK

Look up my post the ywca and the believe about ptsd.

Order the workbook online. That I posted on there.

Nonprofit organizations are the best because they are not motivated by money or anything other than healing. In my experience. Theirs a lot of debates on diagnostic criteria, motivations of certain healthcare systems, and pharmaceutical things. The more you educate for yourself the better it will be.

I joined a program for sexual abuse and assault at the ywca. These 2 women doctors came out with their own technique for therapy for sexual abuse/assault. After they used those techniques in therapy, they decided to make a workbook (which is listed in that thread- a friend of mine ordered it online, I got it for free at the ywca) for the healing process for people like us.

I have been in and out of the therapy, psychiatrist, medical and healthcare system for 12 years. This workbook seems very powerful.

Ignore the whole debates (if you want) on the ywca and the believe about ptsd. A lot of miscommunication happened on there. But check out that book. I listed the contents of the book in the thread also.

Healing is possible if you do the work. I am so sorry that happened to you.

I'm not sure if your violent assault included sexual abuse or assault sorry for assuming that.

Thank you. Yes it was sexual violence. I'm not sure where most people are from, but I'm in Queensland.

I am in Illinois.

Seriously look up that thread and get that work book! :)

I am really sorry that happened to you. I am not sure why things like thus happen to us, but it is possible to come out the other side and be able to manage things better.

Be nice to yourself, take care of yourself, baby steps lead to big changes, go at your own pace-healing takes time, use this forum, be patient, if you do the work in order to heal you will be amazed at yourself, force your body to relax it will ease your mind, surround yourself with only positive things and people, and remember you are beautiful, you are strong, you are safe now, you will be okay.

Hang in there.

Hi Padfoot and welcome.
I know you will find great information and support here. I'm in the UK but I know a lot of members live in Australia.

Hi Padfoot,

Welcome to MyPTSD forum! :)

You need to be commended for going through the legal channels. That takes a lot of courage for at times it can be re-traumatizing, but in the long run it can also be very healing. I hope you find the information and support on this site beneficial to your healing. There is also another resource, a sister site, MySexAbuse.com that you may find helpful.

Wishing you the best.

Debbie

Thank you for the welcome :)

It's going through the legal channels because it was a break and enter, I rang 000 (our emergency number) when I first hear him breaking in and he fled when he saw the lights, it took them 7 months to catch him and only because he had done it to others in that time. Apart from one cop, it's been relatively painless so far. If it goes to trial, of course that might change, but we're hoping for a guilty plea.

Hi Padfoot - Welcome :)

Just want to say you're pretty amazing... you are the silent hero of all the other women he might have assaulted -but cant now, because of your courage.

Unfortunately there were others. He was only young, 16 when he did it to me and another girl in our street and 17 when he did it to the jogger and the other one that he was caught doing it to. Hoping he stays locked up for a while.
