Was wondering if anyone has a similar experience. I was officially diagnosed a few years ago and still receive on going counselling. I would also like to know if anybody has had read " invisible heroes" by belleruth napersak I found it really useful.

Hi macbeth,

Welcome to the forum!

I haven't read Invisible Heroes, but I am glad that you have found it helpful. I also hope that you find the information and support here beneficial to your healing.

Thanks for the encouragement Debbie. I find it difficult sometimes to even talk to my counsellor, let alone my husband or friends. I ve been thinking about joining for a while, but timing is everything sometimes and now seems the right time for me.

I haven't read that yet (but will totally go out and get it today :)! I use her audio visualization for PTSD ALL the time!! She is the voice that helps me go to sleep on so many nights.

What's the book about? Did you get a lot out of it?

I'm reading this book, just starting, having dipped in and out, and I find it hugely helpful so far. It really explains well what happens to us emotionally and physically when we have PTSD. She gives useful summaries of various approaches. I haven't yet got as far as her own approach using visualisations, but this is something that comes so naturally to me I'm hoping it will be a good addition to what I'm doing with my therapist.

I found it a life saver to be honest. I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown. having flashbacks in public was really scary, when I found the book in my local library. I had actually been in the middle of a severe panic attack and had retreated into the library. (library toilets to be exact, where I spent twenty mins crying and shaking questioning my sanity) My counsellor had suggested to me the concept of ptsd and on the way out of the library the book caught my eye. I read it and I was finally able to understand what I was going through and I wasn't going insane.

I was in an abusive relationship as well. I stayed way too long. He beat, assaulted and raped me many times. I have not read that book.
