No sorry about it, Medic, heard the almost identical story from a Marine corpsman not two weeks ago in my group. Your story is known and understood. Who lived and who didn't. Did the one's that made it remember you? Questions without answers. But do know this....of all the Veterans I've had the excellent pleasure of knowing, they all spoke very highly of you medics and corpsmen.

"Above and beyond the call" has been the general consensus. Don't let the beast steal from you, your highest achievement for mankind. Be proud of a job very well done.

Thanks for the story medic. I was always amazed by the Combat Medics in my Battalion. They were more fearless than the most hardened grunt. When I was turning away, because something was just too hurtful to see, a medic was rushing in and cleaning up the mess. Thank you.

Yesterday I took things into my own hands with the VA. At the suggestion of another Vet that I work with, I drove straight down to the VA yesterday after work and told them that I was having a crisis and needed help "right now." I was talking to a nurse 5 minutes later, and within a couple hours was sitting in front of the prescribing provider.
She gave me Mirtazapine for sleep, depression, and anxiety.
Well, it certainly works for sleep. I haven't slept well in months, and after I took one of the dissolving tablets last night I slept for 14 hours straight.
Honestly, I hope I won't need to sleep that much every day with Mirtazapine, but it felt good last night. Not sure how it will work for the depression and anxiety yet as the effects could take weeks to build up.

That is generaly the problem with meds, that they take a while to build up, and need alltering to be most effective during the course of taking them, which is why you need to stick to the program, otherwise it all goes to shit.

Nice work IV,

The thing that really made me realize that I needed get to the VA right away was my co-worker, who asked me if I needed to "talk about it?" He knew that I was having issues at home, but I never mentioned anything in particular. He said that he could "see it" all over my face, that he had felt the same way a few years ago.
He told me what I needed to do and that I shouldn't wait.
Not to be dramatic, but he may have saved my life. Not sure if I would have made it through the weekend, much less June 11th when my appointment for meds was scheduled.

IV86 - bravo... and ya... you werent on here I dont think, but I recently had a big nasty fall... they taught you to stuff it down because the next wave is coming.. for yall waves of soldiers/insurgents you have it.... for us the patients they created for us...

With your provider you need to become part of the health care team... some of the doctors I respected most were the ones who believed the patient was the most important part of their healing... if you fear the release of anguish... tell him... if he says you need it, ask why... if he says xxxx (i.e. whatever he says) at that point TRY to follow to follow what he says.. if it isnt working tell him that...

and ya you gotta form a support group.. not necessarily other vets etc... but people willing to be patient and who know what you are going thru... believe me you need people that understand i.e. vets... but any help is good help...
