How Do You Know When You Dissociate?

I find that my eyes gaze away. Another sign for me is when I can't look at the person I am with. Yet another is when I start to loose all energy for no apparent reason, wanting to lie down.

Depends on situation.... lost time, coming home to apartment with things moved around (thinking someone has been in apartment ---until I realized/accepted dissociation), feeling all of a sudden like I am "waking-up."

This is exactly how it is for me too. I am only just beginning to recognise it. My therapist started pointing it out to me- like others have said here, by asking where I'd gone. I didn't know. But the strange thing for me is that usually the preceding conversation seems to be pretty innocuous and no reason to dissociate.

I have also experienced extreme sleepiness at times. And I have had a couple of dreams in which I kind of passed out /fainted due to dissociation. Very odd dreams. As far as I'm aware I've never passed out in real life.

My friends told me that this is what I'm doing as I 'blank out' I have yet to get diagnosed but plan to asap because for me it's like a switch and I lose time and don't realize until after I return. From what my family say all I do is stare into space and say "uh huh" repeatedly until I'm shaped out of it. I have planned on having my brother to remember when and what I was doing or talking about before and during so I can write it down and look for a pattern to try and lessen the occurrence.

I had a friend who used to have someone video her while she was 'out'. It showed her a lot about what was going on during her lost time. Not sure if that helps at all. Just thought I would throw it out there.
