Poll How Many Diagnoses Of Mental Illness Do You Have?

These diagnoses may be completely unrelated to your PTSD. I'm curious because I read somewhere that previous mental illness increases the chance of developing PTSD.

Also, do you agree with all diagnoses you have (had)?

I've had 3: anorexia nervosa/eating disorder nos, major depression, and PTSD. I agree that all of them were accurate. The first one is behind me now, luckily.

I have been through (7) major operations, survived 4 suicide attempts, 2 of which SHOULD have killed me, have been admitted to Intensive Care twice (1993) and (2013)

Oh..... and survived a near fatal car crash in 2001.

I put something 1+ though primarily just complex trauma ("just" :woot::blackeye:). In the past alcoholism (okay, that was last week too) and anorexia (recovered). Probably could have been diagnosed with panic disorder and ADD if geared toward the right professional, but it all fits under cptsd for me. Also, chronic pain and depression, though these issues seem to relate directly to old defenses not working very well for me and sometimes I want to crawl into a little hole and die a little bit.

1 - PTSD

I'm also ADHD-c, but that's a disorder (like dyslexia, SPD, giftedness, synesthesia, etc.), not mental illness.

As a suggestion... Mental Illness is a specific subset of psychological disorders & conditions. There are a whole host of disorders & conditions which don't fall under that umbrella. If you want those listed, as well by those of us who are comorbid, I would change the poll title to psych diagnosis. <grin> You may not, but I've found a lot of people don't realize that not everything psych is MI, hence the heads up! :)

Currently? Just one - PTSD. In the past, there have been a number of them (probably more than 5 if I were to sit down and count them), including PTSD. I rejected most of them (including the PTSD) except the depression....which is really kind of interesting, because I've been hospitalized more times than I have fingers and I've never considered myself mentally ill...go figure.

When it finally dawned on me that all of my "issues" were really just symptoms of PTSD, things made a lot more sense. Most days I accept that as a diagnosis.

PTSD primarily. I also have anxiety with panic attacks but I think it is diagnosed within PTSD and not it's own. Same with insomnia. Other than that I have just been diagnosed with Dysthymic Disorder. I ocassionally also fit the criteria for Major Depressive Disorder.

On the books? PTSD and anxiety. I have been told I have situational depression. Meaning I have a good reason to be depressed and that it isn't a chemical imbalance.

Off the books, I have serious stuck/unresolved grief and avoidance issues just haven't had anyone label them.

PTSD and GAD, but I never went to the doctor with my depression or eating issues, so I guess it should have been a few more.
