Other Hyperacusis (unusual sensitivity to sound)

I have sensitivity to high pitches and cannot hear voices correctly. I also have massive tinnitus that can drive me batty at times. I had my hearing tested in the late spring and I found out I have moderate hearing loss, which I believe was caused by years of jobs that had heavy phone work/wearing headsets and going to loud concerts. I also have a high startle reflex so sudden loud noises make me jump pretty high.

I highly recommend anyone with difficulty hearing to get your hearing tested. It's been eye opening, or ear opening, to realize what I WASN'T hearing, like the TV. Having to get hearing aids at 47 was a little upset to at first, it I'm really happy to have them.

I am also sensitive to light @EveHarrington, and I get migraines from the sun, so I wear sunglasses a lot, which actually make your eyes more sensitive, but it's important to protect your eyes.

I was just always told, "you're fine as you're border line..." NO BORDERLINE ISN'T FINE!! If like to meet a doctor who understands that borderline crabby effect so Manny different things and that we just might need some meds you even out our hormones!!! But no, let us suffer, as it's better for who!?? NO-ONE THAT'S WHO!!:mad::mad::(

Told doc recently @EveHarrington that he can go by numbers and since I've suffered and struggled because numbers said in range for 25 yrs. and I felt like hell...that now...I will go by what my body and my mind tell me; also I too have light sensitivity and wear sunglasses a lot even indoors if need be.

And @RavenGirl I so agree that even being told and knowing there are low borderline numbers and issues re low testing numbers can indeed can effect so much and it's important to pay attention and give attention also to low borderline numbers no matter how low, etc. for low symptoms are important too...'cuz agreed they can effect so much and hormones is one of them that need attention, among other medical issues. Agreed.

@Incongruency thank you for I did not know (although I believe I've earlier read this but it did not stick in my mind that B12 deficiency is a common condition for those of us who struggle with hypothyroidism and omg I certainly do have a time with my hypothyroidism...and I'll check into this with my primary doc.

Prior to EMDR Therapy, I already had five senses heightened sensitivity ie. startle (fight/fright/flight), also hypervigilance and now post EMDR Therapy I have even more heightened five senses issues. So I do understand all who have posted here that are dealing with heightened senses issue(s). Thank you to all for posting here. After reading all of the above posts I don't feel so all alone with my sensory heightened issues.

OMG!!!!!

(Seriously beyond the moon excited!)

I wrote about taking magnesium supplements in another thread. Today it hit me that my sound sensitivity has dramatically decreased. I then wondered if it could be because of my magnesium supplement. I googled it and low and behold, magnesium can help with hyperacusis issues!

You have no idea how happy I am that this symptom has decreased. It has been one of my most problematic symptoms.

So give magnesium a try if you have sound sensitivity! Seriously. But make sure you take a GOOD magnesium supplement. The bad ones only have 4% absorption. Pitiful.
