New Here
Hi!

I have been lurking this forum for a while and I decided to register, so I can write here too.

Unlike most people here, I don't have PTSD nor any in my family or circle of friends has it. I'm a psychologist, and instead of reading about PTSD at a book or at Wikipedia, I decided to come here to see what real people think, feels about this disorder.

And I hope I can help you in any way, so don't feel shy to ask me:tup:*

*But remember that this forum or anything in the internet can't help you as a professional, so if your suffer of PTSD, go to see one.

Welcome. I am fairly new here. I find that everyone is supportive. It's nice to know that I am not alone in all this. I do agree though that seeing a professional is helpful and essential. Thanks for caring enough to sign up!

I have some questions - why should people ask for advice/help from you when you've just pretty much confessed to knowing nothing about PTSD in your introduction? Seriously, if you don't know what you're talking about then there is a danger of your doing more harm than good.

I'm not sure what your real intentions are here. Why are you interested in PTSD? What sort of psychologist are you?

I appreciate you being honest about this. I expect some people will be nervous about a psychologist being on this forum, but maybe time will tell.

Can I make the suggestion that if your intention truly is to understand more (and not from a first hand sufferer or first hand supporter perspective, but instead from a psychologist perspective) that you make your position/role/perspective clear in every post (eg add a tag line sentence at the end of each post) so people know how to filter your comments. We are very vulnerable here at times and I think this is advisable.

It does seem strange to have a psychologist on here.
There are more here than you know... psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, doctors, specialists, counsellors, so forth. Most simply don't advertise the fact, because they're here for PTSD often for themselves, or they read only.

That does not mean this one is legit though...

It seems to me that the language does not flow on this post as it should with a psychologist. Unless this is a second language posting, this doesn't sound legit to me. I would be careful of taking anyone advice from anyone on this board without absolutely knowing what their qualifications are. It is tough enough to weed out qualified therapists let alone trust someone on the internet who says they are qualified. The proof is in the postings. Psychologist or not if there is good information by the OP on the board then that is a tremendous help. If not, don't let the title being used here lead you down a garden path.
