You mentioned mistakes you've made, and feeling gross and ashamed. We've all been there, where the abusers have programmed us to believe such myths. You'll learn that these "mistakes" were the results of deception and manipulation. You'll learn that the shame is how abusers keep us quiet and afraid.
Well said @WillyKat. I'm at the early stages and can intellectually agree, and am very slowly trying to get the rest of me to understand this key point.
 
Hi Becky,

Welcome and I think you will find this group very nonjudgmental and very understanding. As you read, many of us struggle with feelings of shame and guilt associated with the trauma. Also, anxiety and depression of main symptoms of PTSD. Dealing with the trauma will help lesson the shame and the guilt, and many times has a huge impact on reducing the frequency and severity of anxiety and depression. You might want to talk about this with your therapist.
