Itchy Anxiety Rash, Anyone?

I've been known to break out in hives, but this is different: it's actually a long-lasting, itchy rash, worse at night, that's like patches of small bumps or ridges. Can't see it as well as you can feel it--almost like itchy goose bumps. My skin gets itchy when my anxiety spikes, but this is a longer-lasting version of that. I've had the current patch for about three months--we've been dealing with some hard stuff in therapy so I've just stayed I think at an anxiety "fever pitch" of sorts. The last time I had this kind of rash, it took months to resolve. I went to an allergist, had tons of tests, only to find out the body needed time to repair on its own....

Anyway--curious to know if anyone else has the same or something similar?

Yeah I get all sorts of weird rashes when my anxiety is too high for too long. I've just recently had an eczema out break for the first time since I was a kid. I also get what looks like a heat rash sometimes. If it's really itchy try putting a cold compress on it can help. I've heard of people using antihistamines for the itch also but that doesn't seem to make a difference to me. Have you tried 1% hydrocortisone cream you should only use it for a week it helps my crazy rashes sometimes. You should be able to pick it up at any pharmacy. Other than that try not to scratch which it like tortuous in its self. Sigh it's really sucky.

I have this and I went to my doctor and she said to take antihistimes for it and the itchiness goes away. It is actually a real disease but I forgot the name, and it comes from being overwhelmed with too much stress. I realize that you said no meds so I hope that you will try the cream.

Thank you all so so much. Yes--I had this long-lasting rash once before and yes: it's a histamine level thing related to just getting run down/overstressed. The "allergy cell" (according to my allergist) becomes damaged and leaks histamine. It's worse at night because our histamine levels are higher then. I was advised to take anti-histamines OTC but in significantly higher dosage...I found too much Claritin knocks me out though! The body has to repair the allergy cell and this just takes time--last time I had this sort of rash it took months to resolve. I'll look into the cream for sure. I think one of the things I was struggling with when I posted this was also feeling just very down on myself for having such bad anxiety that I could break out in a rash...I was kind of like, come ON, who DOES this?? But so then--thank you--for telling me it happens to others (you) too. Really. It means a lot to me.

Funny, because in all the research I've done online, taking antihistamines is not recommended. Yes it seems like they'd be beneficial and in the short term they may be, but antihistamines use actually makes the overall condition worse because they prevent our body from healing (I believe-----it's been awhile since I've done my research). A low histamine diet is recommended.
