Hi Folks, I've just signed up, and saw on the video clip that it's best to announce that you are a new arrival on this thread.

I've been struggling with PTSD for years now, but since my wife passed away recently, I'm finding it harder to cope with.

I was having therapy, after waiting on the list for two years, but after six months of sessions, I was told that they couldn't help me any more, due to "having too many issues in my life time, and that it goes right back to when I was a youngster" so they wrote me off?

Looking forward to meeting you all, but in the mean time, I will just have a look around and suss the layout.

Welcome to the forum @Gadgie , you will find a lot of useful information here and a wonderful group of people.

I hope that you are taking as good care of yourself as you can having lost your wife. I cannot imagine how difficult losing your partner must be.

I'm shocked at the attitude of your therapist, and assume this was someone who felt they did not have the expertise to help you. NHS, by any chance? I sincerely hope there is someone else you can be referred to. Have you thought about going back to the GP and explaining what happened, or possibly Citizens Advice to see what resources there are in your area of Scotland?

I wish you all the best and hope to see you around the forums [it is nice to have a fellow Scot here... or if you're not Scottish, it is nice to have someone here who gets how crap the weather is ].

Welcome Gadgie! I see you are from my home county. I have sent a private message which may be of use to you.
I am sure you will find help and support here.

Thanks very much for your warm welcome, it kind of took me by surprise really, as I've been living on my own since last November, and not had contact with anyone since then, (long story but suffice to say, I've been abandoned by my late wife's family, after they had taken everything they could, including our life savings?)

So, you can imagine what a nice feeling it was to read all your welcoming posts. I've just finished a group bereavement therapy course, for folk who have lost loved ones through cancer, and found it hard going.

I wrote a poem about PTSD last year, as part of my then therapy, before I was dropped, I must see if I can find it, it's in my desk top some where. Thanks again for your welcome folks.

PS, I don't know where to find that Message that was sent to me?

Welcome. I have not lost a spouse but understand how great loss makes everything more difficult, or even how old unresolved issues can resurface. Good job coming here and not writing yourself off...sorry your therapist was lazy or ill-equipped. Lots of us have childhood trauma or a lifetime string of trauma. It's not hopeless. It sounds like you're doing a lot of good work to support yourself and work through this, with the group therapy, writing, finding this online group, etc. That's great. Hope this place is helpful to you.
