Good news!! A friend has offered us her lovely beach cottage for the summer. Not a long-term solution, but this will definitely help me get through the next couple of months and figure out what to do next. Hoorah! :tup:

Whew! I'm so glad you found some sort of solution, even if it is only short term. Hopefully some distance will allow you to get some rest and continue healing. I think it is unrealistic of your husband to expect you to live next to him.

That would be like me asking my husband to go live right next door to a combat zone. There is something to be said for "dealing" with a trauma, but putting ourselves through unnecessary extra trauma is just that, unnecessary. Sending peaceful thoughts your way, Ladylazarus.

Thanks, ProudWife--this is a great way of looking at it. Will share this will my husband! He's beginning to understand but this is all very new to him so I'm just trying to balance what I need with what he can handle (I definitely got the "caretaker" gene in my DNA!). But it all starts with me telling him what I need. Not exactly fair to get angry with him for not doing/knowing without me speaking up! All things to work on at our first couples therapy appointment later this week... ;)

We are very lucky to have a strong network of family and friends. It can feel so isolating (not to mention the shame etc) that it's often hard to ask for help, since that would involve actually talking openly with other humans. :eek: But I've discovered that while a lot of them will run for the hills at the first sign of tragedy/horror, many more will surprise you with their love and support. Between my (true) friends and the amazing people I've encountered on this forum, I may slowly be regaining my faith in humanity.
