Majorly Stressed About Self-employment

What about is you developed a flier of some sort, and sent it to people who might hire someone in your line of work and asked them what they like and don't like about the performance of people in your line of work?

Hmm...not sure how this would relate to my work....I offer a free sample session so that people can see/feel what it's like working with me and we can both see if we feel like a good fit. Then we agree how we'll work together and that's an on-going process really. It's very much about what we both put into the relationship and the dynamic the pair of us create in the partnership. A bit like therapy in that respect, I guess.

So people who've never worked with someone in my role before - they often don't know what to expect or may have misconceptions. And people who have - well, they get to road test me for a free session....

So perhaps the answer is to spread fliers around the town advertising the free sample sessions...?
 
I know I can talk a big talk re networking groups while my anxiety has me cancel almost every time I sign up for something but success is so much about exposure when you want to build your client database. One thing at a time. Tackle tiny tasks and make that a big event worthy of reward.
 
@lostforgottensoul Sorry, I think you missed my earlier post - I do personal development/career coachy stuff. So full-on commercial advertising stuff would feel too salesy. But I obviously I do need to do more marketing. So it's partly about marketing myself in a way that feels comfortable and authentic to me and also about using methods that don't feel too sales pitchy to potential clients.

Ha! Yes....I kind of will myself to get food poisoning or for all the trains to break down or something every time so that I can't possibly go!

It's a nice group of people. I just feel so anxious and uncomfortable there - but I don't think I look it, which is something, I suppose! We have to do a 60 second elevator pitch each time, which makes me want to vomit! I think I need to properly think about how best to utilise these meetings going forward, otherwise it's just a big waste of time and money and I might be missing out on potential opportunities.

Next meeting is next week, so I pledge to do some better planning for it :-)

That's actually a bit like what I do. I have business cards up on every free bulletin board in every gas station, feed store, etc, in the area. It just costs the price of the card. In my case, anyone who needs my services understands what I do. In your case, maybe there are people who could benefit from your help and they don't even know it yet.
 
Though this thread is about 1-1/2 years old as I write, I want to refer whoever comes this way to Disabled Businesspersons Association which is also accessible via Facebook. I hope others find the connection there to be as helpful as I did. Cheers, everybody.
