Medical Marijuana And PTSD

Yeah, I think prescription marijuana is the way to go.

Exactly! I love the argument that MJ is a gateway drug. My argument is that alcohol is the true gateway drug. A person with an addictive personality is going to be addicted regardless of what they are using is mj, hard drugs or alcohol. I find it ironic how many people take such a hard stance on pot use yet think nothing of consuming alcohol like they are drinking water and see no issue with it.

I have just celebrated my 25 years in AA, I have a prescription for marijuana, my doctor will not give me anything that is addictive or going to hurt me. I am NOT allowed to smoke it, I use a vaporizor. I have chronic pain in my back and neck and hips, I have to work for a living.I deal with pain all day at work, or take more meds. I am taking enough to help with this PTSD as it is. I don't get stoned, or the munchies, it takes the edge off the pain and allows me to be pain free all the way until bed time and I can sleep! It's not cheap, and I don't get my money back like I do for my meds, but it works for me :)

I'm getting desperate for something to work for me and my symptoms, both the mental health issues and the physical pain issues. I have Fibro with full on body aches in my joints and muscles. When the pain is bad it fills my "stress cup" and doesn't leave any room for daily stress good or bad.

I'm a retired navy vet and I'm concenrned about losing my milityar benefits if I test positive next time I go to the VA. Anybody have any insight on this? I've tried to look it up on the interweb before, but I get lost easily and couldn't find anything conclusive one way or the other. If you find something, please link it so I can read it, I'm very weary of "sea lawyers". :p or "I knew a freind of a freind who's dad's third uncle's second cousine's old college buddy is a paralegal and he says...."

I started smoking pot when I was 13, by 17, I was pretty heavy into it. As I got closer to 18, I started to get really paranoid, and had to quit. I haven't touched it but once since then after I retired. Someone I knew put some MJ butter on a brownie (I know, cliche, but that's what the person put it on). That person gave me way too much. I spent about 3 or 4 hours wondering when I would platue, if I would need to go to the hospital because of an overdose (ya it was that intense), an hour wondering if I had platued, and another hour or two waiting to return to normal. I was WAY too stoned for not having tried it in over 20 years and it scared my pretty bad. I've been seriously considering starting using it again, but in small doses, not for the "high" but to mitigate stress, anxiety, and physical pain. I live in Cali where medical MJ is legal, but as a military retirie, I'm still technically in the military, just on an inactive status.

The problem with medical marijuana or just marijuana in general when it comes to anxiety disorders is that in some people it actually makes their paranoia worse and they have an adverse reaction and have worse anxiety because PTSD creates a sense of always being on the ball and in control. When someone feels like they are no longer able to be as aware as they are used to being, they can go totally ballistic.

Suggestion, be wary of "Spice" :p, unless you're very careful with it, hits you way harder and faster, and can easily leave you(if you're even half the fiend I am) worshipping the porcelain gods through painful shockwaves of fear :p. (it's controllable, but rather volatile :p, in the random case anyone is in that position for the first time, glass of water and snack if you can get that far, otherwise go straight to laying down and sleeping, longer you try to balance, the more the vertigo gets you(learned this after the 4th or 5th time :) )

Prob obvious, but I thought I'd pop a warning out.

Wow, I am so pleased to have found this post. I was afraid to ask!

I have to say that smoking weed REALLY helps my symptoms. I can fully function with it and it beats any medication that I have been prescribed.

My only problem is getting hold of the stuff, its really difficult. I wish that it was legal here :(

I got curious on this topic and did a quick Google search in regards to US veterans and medical marijuana. It seems the VA has reversed its stance on medical marijuana. I'm not going to link anything because anyone who is going to make a decision in regards to use or not, should do thier own research IMO. After all it's their rump (and mind) that is or isn't on the line.

I understand using for pain, not so much for PTSD.

At the end of the day it's still a drug. I can't help but wonder how many of you have tried alternative therapies to treat your PTSD before turning to pot. I'd gander not many based on all the defensiveness I read here.

But, in the end it's your life. If you want to be dependent on a drug for your happiness, then look no further.

4L150N,
You are correct that the song states midnight toker.
I am going to have to claim poetic license, and smart mouthness.:sneaky:
