Meditation or yoga to cope with anxiety?

Hello Will,

Instead of medications, better to develop an habit of doing yoga. It allows us to take excess breathe and protects us from several symptoms like anxiety and stress.

I use meditation to get through the worst of the PTSD after the black Saturday fires where I was a firefighter .

Recently I have let the meditation slide in priority and agreed to taking an antidepressant drug in an attempt to reduce the symptoms of the peripheral neuropathy for the chemo.

I have only been on them for two weeks but already had a bad experience at my work place. I was very anxious about changes to the structure, the introduction of a new manager above me, plus many other pressures. I will use the meditation to get off them and deal with the changes at work.

One thing I have done over the past 4 years is make 10 minute audio recordings on my iPhone at locations that are very peaceful and I play them while meditating to help block out the environment noise around me and with my eyes shut I can visualize the location which also help.

Hope this is of some help.

I've actually had good luck with it, Sweet Pea. Quite good forthe anxiety in pparticular, and I find that I sleep much better on days I've gone to a class. I feel better as soon as the I rest session is through, like I've had the best nap EVER.If you have a class nnear you, I'd say its worth trying a few.

I find both meditation and yoga do wonders.

I also do circuit training and lift weights. Since I started this, I feel a lot better. I have more self confidence and my anxiety has gone down a lot. Also my depressive episodes are not as extreme.
