I voted for sometimes.

I have tried it in pill form. It isn't all that effective for me, but does help.

I have tried it in sublingual form. It is a bit more effective, and since it gets into my system faster, it works much quicker than pill form.

I have also tried Dream Water shots. They have melatonin and other sleep aids in them. I love them, but have to limit my use as they won't work if I take them too often.

I'm not sure of the pill dose I was taking, but I believe it was 5mg. I was able to take a bit less in sublingual form because it was able to get into my system more efficiently. Dream Water does not have amounts listed on the label.

10 mg melatonin (sublingual) is pretty effective for me. Unfortunately, I often wake up 4–5 hours into the sleep, and then go back to sleep shortly. They have time-release melatonin that might(?) avoid this issue of mid-night waking.

It will not help when I'm triggered, unfortunately. At least I don't think it helps.

It works better for me than other over-the-counter sleep aids like diphenhydramine and doxylamine. I have never had a prescription sleep aid so I can't compare.

Well I answered for my son as he takes it and it has stopped him waking continuously throughout the night and helps him fall asleep quickly. He takes 3mg and it has to be made in a compounding chemist. There are homeopathic versions sold here but that's water!

It makes me crazy. Paranoia, hot flashes, cold sweats, insomnia, super wired in a jagged jittery kind of way, cranky as hell, & when I eventually do sleep, some pretty gnarly nightmares. Yuck. I know it helps a lot of people, but my body hates it. Shudder. I seem to respond to melatonin the same way a lot of kids respond to corticosteroids.

I took a slow-release melatonin drug, 2mg, for two or three weeks. Before I took it, I would take at least an hour to fall asleep, and wake up 4-6 times a night (2am, 3am, 4am... FUN).

After those three weeks, my body had reset itself, I don't have to take it anymore to sleep through a night. Probably the best drug I've ever been on. Wasn't even made by a compounding chemist, it was just in their regular prescription stock.

Honestly depends how much I'm seizure-prone any given time.
My usual response is 'stay the heck away from me'. Me nearing seizure? 'Oh hello you awesome med'. Which just reminded me this is something I'll look into.

I take a 10mg pill of melatonin ever night. I have always had a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep and my meds make it tougher to fall asleep and stay asleep a little bit more. I take the 10mg about half an hour before I want to fall asleep and then usually surf facebook or play some games on my phone and I start to feel really sleepy so I put my phone down get all nice and cozy in my bed and fall fast asleep. My only issue this week is that everytime I have been able to go to bed is later then usual or I have woken up earlier then usual or several times in the night for our one year old this past whole week because he has an ear infection but is starting to do a lot better. But that's besides the point. I love my melatonin supplement.

Melatonin, helping resetting sleep cycle, interesting, haven't heard of it before. Glad it worked that way for you!

I haven't used what worked for me, L-trytophan, since I've been on an SSRI, realizing it may interefe.

Really happy for you and to hear about your success!

i take it but it takes hours to actually work, then i wake up a few hours later from nightmares, pain or cats. but at least i get some sleep. i need to sleep some of i have seizures. hope it helps it at least cheep.-chibi
