General Menopause And Ptsd Dont Mix

I know I have been in the throws of the menopause for a few years now and so far it has been OK. Hot flushes and night sweats have been the most I have suffered from, until now that is.

Now I am so up and down I feel like a yo-yo. One minute I want to cry, the next I just want to scream at everything and every body.

My poor husband is struggling to cope with it all too, and it does not go well with his PTSD. He has been shutting himself away more and more, just to keep himself away from my moods.

We have had a chat and he does understand, but he can't cope too well with a hormonal women.

I do have a Dr's appointment on the 4th of April, hopefully she will have some answers of what to do. I did not really want to go on Hormone replacement, but if it fixes me, then bring it on.

Hugs to you @amethist - that really doesn't sound like a great mix at all. I hope you can get things regulated. I suppose I must be about to hit this same stage, though the shock of the onset of the CPTSD seems to have stopped me dead in my tracks. My reflexologist says I've switched everything off before time, so no menopausal symptoms but no periods either. I expect something is about to happen with a vengeance!!

I had planned to do everything I could for myself to prepare for this stage of life, but I seem to be doing nothing at all, what with all the PTSD stuff. It is all too much to deal with. It will be interesting to hear what your doc has to say. Maybe we can all compare notes. I'm sure there must be other women on here with these issues. Thank you for starting this thread.

A friend of mine is about to start taking natural progesterone to see if that helps balance her system, though she doesn't have PTSD. I must admit I'd prefer a more natural route like her. But if HRT is what you benefit from and it gives you temporary respite, I guess, don't knock it. I know of other products that are meant to have great results, but I cannot mention them here obviously for advertising reasons (though I would have no benefit from doing so, but rules is rules!).

Oh not it doesn't - not much does really mix with PTSD if it's over a sustained time and requires more energy from them :whistling:.

I just went through a very stressful situation and menopause was the label placed upon my heightened state and became the 'buzz word'. Every less than perfect response was labelled 'menopause' by hubby. Truth be told I am going through menopause however I was overly stressed and while menopause was a small factor, it was not the cause of me wanting to run screaming down the street to get away from all the stress. Funny how it's okay for them to overload yet they don't cope too well when the shoe is on the other foot.

I ended up taking an over the counter menopause medication as I don't want to have take hormone replacement (HRT) and I didn't think I was that bad as since the stressor is gone, the word menopause has not been uttered by hubby. :speechless:

Not sure if you can get it @amethist but Remifemin Menopause Symptom Relief is definitely worth a try.

Hell hath no fury like a woman being told "It must be yer PMS/Menopause." Lol, though not at the time the incident is happening. There are a number of natural remedies out there as have been suggested, everyone is different as to how they work for them. A short course of hormone therapy is not unreasonable either, if nothing else works and you find your symptoms really unbearable.

My Ex never got it, in spite of me being in the medical profession, lots of info, reasonable and scientifically verifiable explanations. Many reasons why he is an Ex (the Ex Boy, not the Ex Dude). They have to want to try to understand what is happening to you.

Good luck. For what it is worth, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy a few years ago due to severe ongoing female problems that just could not wait until the finish of menopause to get better. On Estrogel now (can't be taken alone with an intact uterus, needs progesterone) and I am a happy clam. Going to take it just until the rest of my friends finish menopause, then I will be the youngest looking of the bunch :D

I really blew it last night and let fly at my husband, just because he was out in his garage longer than he said he would be.

So much so he has gone out by himself today instead of us going together as planned.

Roll on Friday and the Dr's appointment so I can get some HRT patches. That should fix me.

I think you are doing the best you can and are quite normal for what you are going through. Everyone had such good things to say. I am thinking of your well being for if you are not ok, nothing will be ok. Sorry you have to wait for your appointment.

I had a full hysterectomy and did not go on hormone therapy. I am so glad you are trying natural remedies. It will pass. I think you have to be a broken record with your husband that he has to step up to the plate and be there for you now for you have surely been there for him.

It will all end and you will be alright. I am so glad you research things so much. Hang in there. It is a season you are going through. It has a beginning a middle and a end. I understand that you already know these things.

You are not alone and I encourage you to keep on writing about your experiences here for support.

Been loading up on the sage tea, not sure if it working, but I do feel calmer, so maybe there is something in it that helps.
