Narcissistic personality disorder and ptsd

Wait, that's narcissistic personality disorder?
That's one version of it.

My T says it's totally possible for a person to be self-involved, even excessively, without actually having NPD.

In general, a person with NPD believes that they are special to excess. Maybe they believe they have magic powers. Maybe they believe they are truly the only person on the planet who matters. That's the version most people think of these days. The thing is, they really believe this. It's not something they'd like to think is true and wish everyone else would get onboard with. They really, literally, believe it's true. That's THEIR version of reality and they really don't have the capacity to understand how anyone else could fail to see it too.

I've been accused of being a narcissist but I only have cPTSD. I know sometimes when we are symptomat...
Husband was very narcissistic.....and cpstd...afraid of so many things, had to be in control, anxiety.....but clearly extremely narcissistic and couldn't be "in a relationship like a team-mate"-always had to be better, have the answers, and degrade me. He clearly worked the four phases of a narcissist. I was cpstd. So, yes it can be that way. You can have both. By the way, almost everyone can be narcissistic at times and to differing degrees.....but NPD is very damaging to others around the narcissist, these people become caught up in it unknowlingly, and narcissists who are to this degree, are chameleon-like in that they can be super people pleasers, charismatic, they can talk stories and tales, lie (and not know it or lie and know it) and it is insidious. Narcissists don't know and really feel feelings like empathy and the one's I have known are bad listeners, unless someone is telling them how great they are!

You said: Maybe they believe they have magic powers.
This made me laugh....my X thought he had magic powers beneath his zipper. After 50 and menopause, a final reprieve there! I told him to keep it zipped! .... He contacted a Canadian telemarketers for Viagra, always calling every month wanting to know if he needed more Viagra...we never used it....special powers....hahabahaha! Ok, it is early, need to get my head out of the trash can.

Hi. If you're interested, I found an article that explained the differences between the two.

Don't Confuse PTSD Sufferers with Narcissistic at PTSD and Relationships Website

Just to let everyone know (because I'm aware of the possibility that the website's title in the link might sound a little demanding), I didn't have any decision in labeling the link to the website; I just typed in the link and it came up like that after I'd posted. I didn't know it would come up like that at all.
