Now Ptsd Is All Our Fault

Self serving bullshit. Yes lets make the screening harder AND wash our hands of the suicide rate. Slick really slick.

WTF i bet this guy a so called sociologist ( Ronald Kessler ) has never seen or ever been in a war zone let a lone served his country and the closest he has been to a uniform is the janitor cleaning his nice expensive office.

Over here the military is an attractive option for young people who have f*ck all. They accept and enlist, so look after the f*cking troops.

Combat causes combat ptsd. The previous stuff just means you've got more to sort out when you hit therapy.

Pretty sure it's bomb explosions/sensations I have felt since returning; not the lasting memory of being a poor 18year old lad living off tins of beans.

I can't disagree with that assessment. Many people in society in general have mental illness, most will go untreated. Unless it's very obvious people aren't denied jobs because of it. Just as people that enter the military aren't denied either. This doesn't mean that Combat PTSD is our fault. It's cause and effect; were serve in combat, see and do terrible things and are affected by that. The affect isn't felt till later, the P in PTSD.

But I do think that some are at a higher risk for PTSD due to experiences, genetics or fill in the blank that happen to us prior to our military service. Again, it's doesn't relieve the gov't or VA's of the responsibility to treat us for it after we come home.

Jar...Are we talking about the same government? The government I know will dodge the responsibility bullet quicker than you can say "Duck!!!"

These f*ckwits doing the study had a goal in mind before they even started. The guy doing it was paid handsomely to come up with a good slant for the Guv.

But I do agree there are allot of loons in world. Hell my town is prime territory for a case study.

If it were Viet Nam then I would concur. There were guys that were offered the opportunity to go to jail or Viet Nam. So they sent a bunch of screwed up felons to the war and then couldn't understand why they came back ever more screwed up. But that was Nam. Now, with the all volunteer military, I don't buy it. If this is the path they want to walk, then they better start giving very in-depth psyche exams before accepting them into the military.

The gov't has and will always look to ways to take away or reduce the benefits that they guaranteed to vets. No doubt about that. I do think that unless someone has a documented mental illness it would be extremely hard to prove. As always I think you have to go to them, the VA, well armed to plead your case.

When it comes down to it, I don't trust anyone or what they say. It's actions that will always speak louder than words.

And I agree with Sarg that if today's military wants to cut down on the number of cases of PTSD they need to do in-depth psyche exams prior to letting people into the military. I also think, more than a couple of tours in combat is a probable assurance that that vet will have PTSD.

And if the gov't wants to reduce the amount of money it needs and spends I suggest two things; cut all foreign aid and reduce the salaries at the managerial levels to 10% of what they are at present.

Sell the Generals while you're at it. Sexual harassment, conduct unbecoming, oh yeah and the one who lost two nuclear warheads. Hell, they're more dangerous than the tellybelly.
