Hummmingbird moth caterpillars on my sacred datura. They politely turn up only after the plant has produced many seed pods and is way overgrown, which begins the process of metabolizing the plant back into its thick taproot for the winter. Yes, the days are getting shorter…

I love the way they squish in their faces when I pet them. They look like they’re wearing little green footsie pajamas. I always think of the use caterpillar asking Alice, “WHO are YOU?!”

There has been heavy construction in close vicinity of the plant for several days and sadly one of the caterpillars died on the first day of construction and the other one ran away into the street.

Was reading about South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands (British overseas territory contested by Argentina) down near Antarctica and I saw a picture of penguins. And the thought of penguins in the world doing their penguin things and living their penguin day at the exact same time as I was reading about them on Wikipedia put a big grin on my face.
