I have PTSD, and have had for decades. I managed to control it for over 30 years, but lost the ability to do that about 2 years ago. I spent about 18 months trying various self-help strategies (to no avail), and have just recently started seeing a therapist, which for me was really a last-ditch effort. I am still not comfortable with therapy, and I am not really comfortable about being here; I just promised that I would do it as part of the therapy.

Welcome! I hope you find some of the help you seek here while talking with others who know what it's like to go through times where control is difficult to manage.

I do hope that your therapy experience goes a long way and that you are able to put some trust into what others can bring forward in the way of studied behaviors. I personally love therapy and psychology and hearing that there are straightforward ways that the human brain does things helps me to separate myself from the negative behaviors attached to my PTSD. Being able to recognize what is happening and what tools work best can come from experience, and it can be of great help to get a sense of what has worked for others from those who are dedicated to researching that.

I have enjoyed being able to talk with others here and not feel judged or dismissed because of a lack of understanding or experience, I hope that might be your experience as well.

I'm glad you found us.There is an amazing amount of wisdom and generosity around here. I can see that you are committing to therapy and to doing whatever it takes to move ahead. I'll look forward to learning from you in your journey.

Welcome! Really glad you're here too.

I relate to your post - I didn't realize I had CPTSD for so long and I coped as best I could, though I knew life was not happy for me often and it just felt really hard. I am here now because I hit a wall and had such a PTSD episode that I couldn't drive (meaning I could barely work) anymore and developed a neurological tremor and constant nausea.

I hope you enjoy it here - the forums have changed my life!
