Quiting Cigarettes.

Watching two people I love die because of emphysema and COPD complications has made me particularly glad that I do not smoke. Tried it when I was 16 and really did not like it. Besides not liking it, not smoking appeals to the vain side of me. Not smelling and my skin not getting damaged from the smoke. Hopefully those thoughts will give you even more incentive. Sorry for being a downer.

On a positive note, I truly believe that if someone puts their mind to something, such as quitting, they will do it. You have to really want too. I know it is not easy, I've seen other people struggle to quit. We are here to cheer you on. My grandma tried hypnosis and that seemed to work for her.

Good luck and much strength!

Awesome!

Just think of all the benefits.... More $$$ in your pocket, you won't reek, you won't get bad smokers skin, you'll be less likely to get lung cancer, emphysema, etc.

Yes, I'm that annoying person who tells everyone to quit smoking. Ok, I try not to be annoying, it's just because I care. A family member died young due to smoking and resulting emphysema. In 3 days he went from contracting the flu to dead. He'd still be here if his lungs didn't give out!

You've probably heard this tip a thousand times, but how about adding up how much you spend in a week, month, year, ten years etc. and getting angry over how much you've spent and will continue to spend if you stay addicted? I once quit for a couple of months with this as my motivation and walking/hiking as my way of dealing with withdrawal symptoms.

Just checking in to see how you are doing on this. I know it is not easy, saw my mom struggle with this for years. Hoping things are going well.

Congratulations! I am a smoker considering quitting for the first time (I've never even been tempted to quit before, so it's a step for me).

The only tip I have that I've seen work is for people thinking of quitting in the near future, but you could ask a smoking friend to help.

Take a large mason jar and begin filling it with your [friend's] butts. When it's halfway or more full, full the rest with water and let it sit closed for like a week. Then, when you want to smoke, open the jar and take a nice long whiff. Attempt not to vomit and enjoy knowing the jar is not your lungs anymore. Lather rinse and repeat as needed.

Best of luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck to all that are trying to quit.

I was a smoker. (which I believe is a form of self-harming) One day my husband brought home an E cig...I started using it that day and never picked up a regular cig again. I used the E cig for about 2 months and then stopped using that. I haven't smoked in a year and a half now. Yay Me! Not only am I feeling healthier but I am saving over 300 dollars a month which I can now use to buy my self a new car. I will use the money I used to spend on cigs to pay my new car payment. Win, Win all around.!!!!
