I spent 7 of my 10 yrs at Naval National Medical Center in Bethesda... only honor I can claim from that is I ran a arterial blood gas sample on the former president Reagan... somewhere, somehow I got assigned to MMART Team 2... a super MASH type unit literally a REAL hospital afloat with the Gyrenes when shit was happening... we enlisted were assigned out to platoons... or like me on the second tour, flew medevacs to free up the other green side corpsmen...

ok I guess I am saying my claim to fame is I let the docs know the Presidents oxygen and Carbon Dioxide levels were normal when he had his hemmorhoids removed... lol... not something you bring up in a bar.. and careful Raven.. I am starting to like your sense of humor.. I might go soft and actually like you soon..

Though it would be extremely silly if that guy had a tattoo of a division he wasn't even in. *shrug*

I always wonder how many "Special Forces"or whatever you meet actually turn out to be cooks or supply clerks... Not that I'm knocking either cooks or supply clerks. ;)

The "Walters" make me giggle. Had a guy transit (Sgt) through the HLS, all the gear type. Asked who he was working with and got the shrug and side look, "can't say fella". All the 22 guys out there would tell you straight out, no messin.
Transiting through bastion for R and R I went to cash a cheque for a well deserved pizza and buy some crap for the mrs and kids. Low and behold, combat clerk, sorry, "Combat HR specialist" was stood behind the desk with a smile, worse thing was, he was a private. I went nuts.
Couldn't charge him for impersonation as I couldn't prove it, straight into his boss though and let him know.
A phrase from my child hood come to mind "Empty ships make the most noises"
Hang tough Raven mate, we all want to knock the shit out of something most days, Christ I know I do.
As Jar said, people that talk about it, rarely have. The guys an asshole if he thinks "I've killed 40, including an 8 year old" is something to brag about. I would of knocked him for that.

From my first hand experience, most that are the real deal say very little. In fact, the ones I've known are pretty humble and you would never guess they were Spec Ops. They are exceptionally calm and have nothing to prove. (not say that they aren't prone to kicking ass in the local bars for fun) Anyway, same with just guys and gals that have been in combat...they typically don't really talk about it and they rarely brag. There are always exceptions.

Another thing: again, from what I've experienced, the real deal doesn't hate his co-service combat forces. The Army and Marines may jab at each other, but typically you don't hear them saying they truly hate each other. They know they need each other in combat. Especially these days, cause everything is moving joint. So if your 82nd boy was bragging about "how he hates Marines", he is probably full of shit! Not to mention his kill count...shit was so f'ed up in Iraq, rarely didn't anyone have any idea their actual kill count. He is probably a freaking supply clerk...

Just another REMF.

Realy? You trying to put the load mouthed bullshitting Dick Raven is on about in the same draw as Me Tim?

A lot of us REMF`s volunteered to do frontline with Inf, and Armour to fill the manpower gaps they would have and ensure by doing so that they would stay a reliable and formidable fighting force!

Kinda like me saying all US military are a bunch of gunho, loadmouthed John Wayne wanna be`s, who are too busy being trigger happy to actualy Recognise that what they are shooting at are British Squaddie`s!

Some of us REMF`s earnt our Wings and daggers, and the respect of the multiple`s we went out with like the Rifle`s, Argyll`s, RIR and the Hussars as well as RA on the streets of NI, the hills and valleys of Bosnia, and even the Deserts of Kuwait and Iraq.

Just call him a dick and leave the Tar and Brush at home.

Ok, so before this blows up and I get slammed ...when I said, 'he is probably a freakin' supply clerk', I did not mean to offend. My wife was a freakin supply clerk when I met her so I know the shit they put up with. It was just a general term to state that the 82nd jerk was probably not what he was stating. Hell, without supplies we would all be f'ed. Kind of hard to kill a bad guy without supplies :)

Everyone in the service makes jokes about the other ones. That's all it is, jokes for fun. Just about anyone that puts on a uniform has my respect.

The only "real" Seal I ever knew, I had known for months until my cousin told me he was one. Never said a word about it. He was big, quiet and seemed very gentle type guy but from what my cousin said, saw some real shit.

Now get this, the guy drowned in the Gulf during a hurricane when they were evacuating his oil platform and the poor guy got all tangled up in some steel cables. We lost a gentle man and a hero all in one swoop.

And bums like me get to walk the earth.

Oh, and an additional note...WELCOME RAVEN!

I didn't get a chance to welcome you on board til' now cause some little gremlins (Jar knows who) had my puter in knots. And like Tom (tho), you're growing on me. I like women with grit, who tear into anything no matter how much bigger than they.

And you're artwork is superb as well.

I met a couple of Seals on an op that was a practice mission at Pendelton. They were great guys. They taught me how to scuba dive. We would go off the coast a ways and dive for abalone. They were still around in large numbers back then. We'd start a fire on the beach and cook the abalone and drink beer. Those were good times. I lost contact with them when they were deployed to 'Nam. I always wonder how they did and if they made it back.

And Sarg, it's sad about that Seal that lost his life. Always sad when a good man goes down. Oh, and by the way, You're not hardly a bum.

When I think guys are telling tall tales about their military careers, I normally just smirk, pretend to be a clueless civie, and ask these guys dumb questions. Sometimes I'll call them out on it eventually, but I more often do not even bother. Sadly, I bump into guys like this fairly often and I've learned to just see it as an inside joke with myself.

As I said, he was being downright nasty to my friend and calling him a "nigger". That's why I snapped.

@Sarg Thank you for the warm welcome! :p
