Childhood Remembering Or Not...?

I've often heard that people who have suffered abuse in their childhood have no memories or very little memory of their childhood. What if you have a lot of memories?? I seem to remember a LOT of my childhood...both the good and the bad. Does that mean that it wasn't really abuse, or that it wasn't that bad? I don't think so.

In contrast, my T has very little memory of her childhood & says she was not abused so I guess maybe it just depends on the person.

I guess I just don't really think that having no memory vs. a lot of memories has any bearing on whether or not there was actually abuse. I dissociated a lot as a child & still do, but I was still able to remember a lot of things. Any thoughts?

I have extremely clear memories and detail of my childhood - the good the bad and the ugly. I did dissociate as a child but at the time didnt realise what it was. I was abused and its only since i have been in T that the good memories have returned, sadly along with new bad ugly ones too - not so much new memories but ones where the fog has now cleared and they are more detailed.
My partner who didnt suffer any trauma has clear memories too so i wonder if its just about the person?

Me too, @Missycat ! I have a very good memory....well, my long term memory is great, just don't ask me what I ate for breakfast! Lol! I'm finding the deeper I get into therapy the more I'm remembering as well. Things seem to be getting clearer. I was just curious about how remembering stuff works for everyone else...thanks for your response!
