My 13 year old has been diagnosed with PTSD and PNES. She also has seizures about every 5 weeks.

I have experienced this ...I am a former pro athlete performance specialist contracted by army, served 15 years around 20 overseas only twice. Also a former spouse to career war soldier.

whatever you do watch MRI. I went into one during tests. still had effects.

I really believe this is more than traumatic. there are injuries that happen while training or experiencing around military war life. Plus the testing and chemicals also just the whole environment.

I'm going to get tested for silent seizures soon. When I talk to the neural psychologist on Tuesday who did my neurological tests, I'll ask him about this if I remember. It's definitely not the same as an epileptic seizure, but they are still considered seizures. I didn't know there could be a connection.

lil_fighter, I do hope you continue on keep on fighting to overcome too:) I commend you for seeking help...

Thank you so much for your post. I am in the same situation. PTSD, pseudo seizures and panic attacks make you wonder how to go on sometimes. Was also misdiagnosed with regular seizures, but am finding great help from a christian counselor now. What helps you the most?

Came across this and thought I would post. I have both PTSD and temporal lobe seizures with a TBI. I operated the arm of a buffalo during counter IED operations. My current treatment is medication with monthly check ups.

Hi, I am now pretty certain that I used to have these dissasociative seizures. I went to several neurologists doctors of all kinds and gradually it went away after a very tough tramatic year. Not until recently did I have a friend start having the same things happen and go see a psychiatrist who said she had dissacosiative disorder. Is it possible to get this disorder without having any tramatic events happen?

I am so happy I found this thread. I have a diagnosis of seizure disorder along with a comorbid non-epileptic seizure disorder as well as PTSD. I have battled (myself mostly) for years because I really wanted to believe that ALL of the episodes were stress related because somehow that helped me cope. I believed I had control if they were all related to PTSD. It is my belief that stress causes a neuroendocrine and neurotransmitter response that interact in ways not fully understood. If we all accept that stress can lead to a stroke and has been linked with a number of diseases and disorders, then why would anyone think seizures would be any different? Mainstream medicine is still very stuck on separating the body and mind. It's not possible. All of it works together.

Knowing that I have all three makes total sense to me and I am better able to identify my triggers. I have learned to minimize their impact with coping strategies. The times when I am unsuccessful the aura (for me it's always a sense of deja vu - I've been here before but can't remember if it's a memory of a dream or a real memory) will evolve very rapidly and I will have a partial complex seizure. My full tonic clonic seizures all seem to be NES because even when I've gone into status and had to be intubated in ICU, my EEG was negative.

I am very excited to hear about EMDR and hope to experience this therapy in the hopes that I will have no more of these nasty, nasty NES episodes. The partial complex seizures are miserable as well but those don't happen often as long as I get adequate sleep and hydration. I'm still working on finding a medication that will have the least amount of side effects and the best impact on seizure control (as defined by my standards of living a normal life).

I am a highly trained researcher in biological psychology and a highly trained practitioner as a school based behavioral psychologist.

You can have all of these at once. You have to educate yourself and be your own warrior. Fight the good fight.

I have these. I have had them for over a year now and they are only nocturnal for me. The PTSD is thanks to my ex husband and I can't work currently because I am not reliable because of them. My head violently shakes after a muscle spasm sets them off. Most happen just as I am falling asleep up to an hour after I have. If I wake up during the night, they start over. They have caused muscle strain in my neck and shoulders, headaches and migraines (my brain actually feels swollen) and speech impairment. It's worse today ironically enough. They were triggered by a ridiculous motion of contempt of a court order by my ex. I was threatened with arrest for my 14 year old refused to visit with his father. There are abuse issues between them as well. It will just be a waste of my lawyer's time and money too. I just wish my ex would stop. I suffered for 14 years with him. Now I have suffered over an additional year without him.

First and foremost, thank you for this form! And thank you for every story shared here! I know I'm not alone... but I just wish the doc would understand what it's like and that we need a better system of care, story of my life.

I am 28, female, sexually abused from 7-13 by older family member, physical and psychological abuse from my father, and I was born with a complex heart condition which has led to fibro and just a ton of "physical" medical problems... Anyway, dissociation is my middle name but I started having memories of the abuse (sexual) because of finally opening up to my therapist and the next thing I know I'm in the hospital hooked up to an EEG. Which, of course, showed them nothing. After ruling out everything from cardio, pulmonary, to neuro we get to psych and the PTSD seizures. After everything, I just don't know how much more I can take. Like many people on here, I have very methodical coping strategies that have kept me alive and I feel like the rule book has now been thrown out the window and I have no ground to stand on; especially now, when I'm terrified that my brain is going to fracture at any moment.

Here are my biggest questions: I have night terrors, is there a huge difference between them and these seizures other than timing? Sleep has always been a stressful trigger for me so perhaps they aren't that different for some people because they feel very similar. The only difference is I'm not up walking around and hit the floor. Just curious. Also, does anyone else experience excruciating pain in their neck, chest, arm and/or leg, then have a migraine afterwards? It's so hard to describe to someone how it's like a panic attack but entirely different, yes you feel like you are dying (drowning or being strangled) and you are aware but it is so intense that you are also outside of yourself. I know I'm probably "preaching to the choir" but it's so indescribable.

Again, thank you all! Have a wonderful day :)
