@sunseeker
Breathe (2 a.m.)

Great song! Some of favorite parts of song

"Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe

and

"May he turn twenty-one on the base at Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist
Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles

So I will add song:
Jewel - Down So Long

"But I've been down so long
Ooh, it can't be longer still
I've been down so long
That the end must be drawing near"

So hope....

Epic thread. :)

I have so many songs of significance that I really can't go into them all. Or even get started.. Among others, The Cure, but it reminds me so deeply of lost loves that I can't really listen to it anymore. :( There is also melodic Gothic music when I need some compassion. There is some staggering beauty in there, but it can get me feeling dark.

Mostly I listen to Roots Reggae nowadays. It is the music of struggle, compassion and bravery. It inspires me in the best ways. ;)

Thank you all for the songs! Now, I need to go through all of them.

I noticed several of you mentioned Sinead O'Connor's songs. I love her songs. She was abused by her mother and some of her songs are very personal and also very warm. For example, This is to Mother You, or Red Football.

Again, thank you for all the recommendations. I am also starting to work on a self-parenting playlist.

@UniversalBeing I feel like her stuff has kind of a triumphant feel even when it's about not so pleasant things. Maybe that's me reading something feminist into them, but it seems more universal than that.

I love to sing- now, I suck at it- but that doesn't change the fact. Just the act of doing it can make me feel better about just about anything. I do online karaoke. LOL

Nice thread. I like Linkin Park. Songs: Crawling, Somewhere I belong, In the end, Numb. Cathartic stuff.

@WildMermaid @ButterflyDisco hey there fellow Lana fans! Have you listened to Without You any chance? I love it, it's a pretty song, pretty music and the lyrics are very pretty too. And out of nowhere they just get tragic -it just hits you. Powerful song. It's one that speaks to me.

I'm not very adept at self-compassion, but I'd say (because to hear it seasonally) '(Just) Get Me Through December' by Alison Krause is me. Though identifying with the 'walking wounded', though accurate is, well, what it is. Not exactly heartening. :( (Not a selling feature!) And I'm tired of starting again.

However, though I'm no singer I can hit the high notes. :whistling: and I love violins. It's also great time for a waltz. I guess it makes me feel better to call it like it is for what it is, & let my guard down. That's (my) self-compassion.
