And to your question: as many have already said: communication! Figuring out that he is going to isolate is so hard and so frustrating. It initially comes off as him being mad or irritated with me about something. So, I am sitting there trying to figure out what the heck I did. I will ask if everything is ok. He will say yes and continue to act like I did something. At this point I know it is his thing and not me, but it would certainly help if he was just honest and said it wasn't ok...or he's anxious...or depressed...or whatever it is so that I know how much I can rely on him (or not).

Also, afterwards, when he's starting to feel better...acknowledging it! He tends to say sorry.... I never feel like he has anything to apologize for....but I suspect he feels he does. So that's fine with me. Even though I know what it is, I appreciate him saying it. And more so, I always need to hear him say that it had nothing to do with me and that his feelings for me haven't changed. The sooner and more frequently he can say such things the better. But he is just not there yet so I get it afterwards.
