As a non-American, I've not been following the Kavanaugh stuff too closely... I've tried to stay informed, because I think it's an important issue, but I've tried to source information about it, that is as non-triggering as possible.
Eg, smart summaries by very skilled journalists, whose analysis I trust.
While I agree that the whole thing sends an atrocious message to our daughters, nieces, girls and young women and while the whole thing has been deplorable...
I'm wondering whether there's been any calm/ sane analysis/ debate about the timing and nature of the accusations against Kavanaugh.
Yes it's beyond ridiculous and totally devoid of compassion and knowledge to expect a young woman to report sexual assault at the time/ back in the 1980s.
But I'm wondering whether some of the debate has been about accusing someone live on national TV/ in the media and accusing someone as they are nominated for an important position?
Sure, I understand that if a perp is about to be promoted to a position of power/ responsibility, that would be a compelling reason to finally step forward.
But I'm wondering whether things would be any different, if these accusations had been made away from the media... just reported to the police, say, in 2014 or 2016 rather than 2018? Not back in the 1980's but not necessarily right at the time of a public nomination?
Dunno if I've worded my question in a way that makes sense?
I guess I'm wondering whether a legal/ criminal/ personal matter being turned into a national media spectacle has done anyone involved in the whole thing a service?
As I said, I'm not following the case closely enough to know... but at the moment, from a distance, it seems like everyone has lost in this?
