I can't imagine coming out publicly and naming my abuser
^^It is beyond words to have the media photograph you, video you, harass you for a reaction, follow you outside of the Court and report on every blink of your eye's when you are in the Court. Every tear, every sob it's all not only open to the defence counsel, curious onlookers, Judge, Jury but the dam media and therefore everyone else who hears a sound bite, uses the internet, does a search or passes by a newsstand. She will never own her name again. It will always be attached to this event.
So the horrible secret, the terrible truth is thrown out into the world. She will never be the same again. She will never be treated the same again. She will never feel the same again. It isn't a relief. It is extremely hard and the consequences will live on with her for the rest of her life. Long after we have all moved on - she will be living every second of it.
She will want to hide it away because she wasn't believed.
I heard some media reporters stating that after this event 'she will have a huge media presence and possibly a career in broadcasting etc' :wtf: No...she will not. If one looks back at any woman who makes an allegation against powerful people they either bury themselves or they get buried. Even when it is proved they were telling the truth.
also sends a message to perpetrators. That you marshal your troops and lie, lie, lie. With no physical evidence,
Perpetrators already knew this. Defence counsel know this. Attack the character of the witness. Point out the deficiency in memory and hard cold direct evidence. I suppose now they just have a really big and loud reminder that it's worth a red hot go at denying everything and seeing if they can get their clients off. If you were a perpetrator and somebody held the door open like that - wouldn't you walk right on through??
It's too easy to throw mud at a victim when it's not within the confines of a court. Even then it's bad but there are some limitations.
The victim blaming going on is astounding. The investigation took idk a couple of days?? The ink was barely dry on her statement and it was all being dismissed as not credible. That poor woman. If she was feeling terrible and traumatised before this came up - she will be feeling so used, re-traumatised and discarded now.
Which is worse, not being believed? Or being "believed" but ignored?
It's the process that is so debilitating. She has not been given the respect and privacy that should have been given to her. It seems that her status as a sexual assault victim and the trauma that goes with that isn't being respected by all of those politicians etc., Instead she has had to do it so publicly. I think she will be profoundly traumatised by all of this.
For me - the victim in this had been fodder. That sets a dangerous precedent even if it's not a legal one.
