Things That Make You Feel At Home?

The royal blue blanket my mom crocheted for me. Candles, wind chimes, sun-catchers, shrines, ancestor altars, mirrors, family photos, smell of fresh coffee and cinnamon toast, Vicks vap-o-rub... I am sure there are many more that will come to me but these came to me first.

I don't even know. My room still doesn't feel like my room. I do often isolate myself there, it is not unpleasant, but it doesn't feel like home. I kind of want to change up how I have it set up. Maybe that will help it feel more like home, more comfortable, safer. I am thinking of setting up my bed in a corner, and then putting my dresser against the end of it, so I feel more like surrounded by barriers as I sleep, if that makes sense. I could even paint the walls if I want. I already have a bunch of really light blue paint, but I'm debating going with a warmer color. I already use warm, soft lighting.

Maybe living in a place like I did, when I lived in the middle of nowhere, would be cool. It was in a village of 700. The nearest settlements of any size were an hour north and an hour south. One had around 7k people, one had around 2k people. 300 miles away was a city of around 300k. So, not the most in the middle of nowhere, but it wasn't a very populated area.

It was a cabin, with a very large property to do things on, and neighbors were pretty far away. For heat, it had a wood burning stove and a propane stove. There is nothing more comfy than a wood burning stove, IMO it is the best heating source for coziness. It's also really efficient, actually, especially with a small structure like that. It takes very little wood to keep it warm though even a very cold night. The oven was also driven off of propane. There was a full bathroom, though it was very cramped, standing shower only. Well water, which was nice. The water tasted very good down there, lol.

It was nice because there was no light or sound pollution. You could hear the sound of the wind blowing all of the leaves in the trees, and all the little critters and birds and stuff, just all those nature noises. The air was very fresh, and everything was just mellow. Everyone in town knew each other, which has its benefits and its drawbacks. I would like to call a place like that home again. Definitely not the same place, but, there are many like it. Everything is just so peaceful in places like that, in my opinion. It's nice to be away from the world. It's nice to not have to deal with the stresses of being in a city. There are annoying parts too but, it was a very relaxing atmosphere, to me.

Plus you can do all sorts of cool shit on your property that you can't in the city. That's a big plus.

Memories of that place are some of my "happy place" memories, that I've used.

Soft gentle music
A bunch of holiday cards hanging up by the kitchen, I've kept there for years, including some hand made ones from members here.

This is kind of a cop-out answer, but right now, everything. I'm living in my first house away from my abusive family - it's not perfect, but I've finally got a place to call my own. I'm totally safe here. It's the best.
