I've been living in this bungalow, which has served me very well for the last 2 years, and I do love this space. The issue I have is that the man who owns the bungalow, whom I am helping pay for his mortgage by paying rent to him and his wife (who just left him) still has not attended to and finished connecting the pipes up to the shower...after I was told he would get it working in a few months after I moved in.
I have waited, and been patient, as I know he had some medical issues when I first moved in, and had to have an operation. He really was quite sick and it was obvious he was not coping with working full time, and being a father, and the marriage was on the rocks when I first moved in, so I gave it time and was understanding...much moreso than many people, I'm sure. Most would have just moved out by now, and if I had the money and wasn't just working week by week to pay for rent and food etc. I would have left ages ago...but I also just kept hanging in there because I had waited so long to have a place all to myself, and had been through so much to get to this point, and it is such a stressful process to move house that I just kept hanging in there...waiting.
He told me a few months ago that he had made this a priority, to fix...but it's been about 3 months since he's even looked at it, and I've gone back to feeling like it really isn't a priority for him at all. I've taken bolder strategies of telling him I will move out if he doesn't fix it, and expressed that I don't want to wait any more, so I'm looking for a new place...and that seems to get his ass off the couch (he isn't really a couch potato...and is pretty busy and is up to his ears in kids and has no life or time for himself, so I know he isn't just being lazy.) for a while anyway.
When he realizes I was just bluffing he goes back to doing nothing about it, and nothing gets done.
It would be great if I had a big boyfriend who would have sterner words with him that might be more...motivating, but I don't.
What more can I do at this stage?
It is a private property and the council have no knowledge of there even being a bungalow here, let alone one that they are helping pay their mortgage with. I could technically get them in lots of trouble, but I don't want to go that way...at least not if I don't have to.
He will not let me get someone else to do it as he says he doesn't have the money for that, and he will also not allow me to pay for someone to do it, as he is an engineer and likes doing it himself and doesn't want someone else doing it...and is also nervous about the council finding out. So these are not options open to me at the moment.
I feel powerless to do anything and am at the mercy of his whim in this case...which I do not like at all. I could try resorting to telling him I am moving out again...which I do seriously want to do now, but don't have the money right now to do and am avoiding the stress of a move as well. I know it might get his butt in gear, but for how long? The toilet still is acting up and he only installed that about 6 months ago (after me waiting a year and a half and having to share with them and their 2 boys in that time.)
I'm so over it, I'm beyond annoyed. I'm actually feeling somewhat apathetic, and that bothers me.
