I believe you. I think it's horrible that anyone would argue with anything you've said.
Not that it's not okay to argue or disagree but I mean.. that really angers me.
Has anyone heard that invalidation is like the root of all evil when it comes to PTSD?

The admin is clearly either current or former Police/Military. I grew up in a military household, and I know that no one understands how a military/police feel better than military/police. And I also know that it is difficult for people NOT in that position to understand the mentality. HOWEVER, that doesn't make brutality right for anyone. Let alone someone in a position that is supposed to be protecting and serving. Camaraderie is great and necessary. It is also necessary to know that your fellow officers have your back and for them to know you have theirs, but wrong is wrong. And abuse of power is wrong no matter if it is a parent, priest, teacher, cop, or soldier.

We have entered a "by any means" state in the US it seems. But a lot of good people get hurt. The point is to beat the bad guys to protect the innocent. Not beat the bad guys at the price of the innocent.

That being said, not all cops or soldiers are like that. It is an unfortunate minority, but one that is not always properly dealt with.

Wow. So, it looks like this thread got off course a lot.

To the first poster - am I right that your point was you don't seem to fit in here because your trauma is different from what you see most on here - child abuse, combat ptsd etc?

To that I would say, post, keep posting. Someone else on here, out there looking for something like this place, will be able to relate. Even if they're too afraid to come forward at this time and post as well. Your posting could help give them courage to seek their own help or join forums like this one.

I have in the past come across a few posts from people writing about their previous abuses from police. I personally knew a kid that was thrown against an elevator door by a cop just because he could, just because he wanted the kid to know he had the power, the guy was in handcuffs! the elevator door opened, no elevator and the cop threw the kid in forcibly without looking - the kid fell 3 floors before landing on the top of the elevator and died.

As for feeling alone on here. I think all of us have at one point or another. Your triggers and flashbacks and fears and experiences may seem vastly different from everyone else on here, but in general, we all understand what type of hell it is trying to live with PTSD, regardless of where it came from.

I should also add, that everyone on here is in different states of 'healing' and learning to deal with their PTSD. Some people, who seem to be doing okay today, probably were not last year, and may not be tomorrow, would of had the same feelings about therapy, religion and the world that you seem to have now.

Explore more, read posts from months, years ago. I hope you continue to post your own story and encourage others with similar stories to come forward as well.

Nedege,

I just think its unfortunate that this thread has become a debate about much abuse there is or isnt of police and army power. Wspecially when it seems to me the main issue here is the following.
certain popular patterns that most sufferers display. I just don't fit the molds. ,,but I feel a fundamental disconnect.

Would you like to discuss the symptoms you don't relate to and discuss those that you feel others don't experience? To describe the disconnect.

I am sorry your trust was abused in such a way. I think it making pointed sweeping statements about police and army was always going to invite a backlash from those whom are dedicated to these jobs.

But I think for yours sake it would help to put the debate aside (as there really is little point in having it) and rather concentrate on deeper things.

I wish you healing.

When I get access to a computer will write more on this topic.
