@LIllabeth, want to come over and teach some of that to my son and I? Wish my grandparents were that cool to teach us stuff like that. We learned ways to use nature to fix yourself. A good thing to know but always fun to learn a new way to destroy stuff! That is what keeps me going every year.....

@Lurch, going to my grandparents meant I got to learn how to live off the land as well, which are some of my best childhood memories. Picking locks, hot wiringing cars, and other such "skills" I acquired as a teen in high school because I was an honour roll cheerleader who took auto shop as an elective by choice and enjoyed it. My mom had deadly aim with a wooden spoon and taught me that every person was a potential friend so I got along well with my auto shop buddies. I helped them with their math/ science classes and they taught me to throw knives, pick locks, hot wire cars, and other dubious but useful life skills if applied to your own property and effects. These skills have actually served me well out in the field and on many deployments (folks deploying back home with the vehicle keys and the vehicle still locked and awaiting airlift in theatre.......)

If you live somewhere where there is no snow I may just take you up on that offer Lurch! This little old lady has to be careful not to slip on the ice and snow and break a hip before Santa comes because if I do fall, the language that will come out of my mouth will put me on the "Naughty" list for the next 20 years for sure lol

@LIllabeth, door is always open. Currently live in the deep south of Mississippi, in a average size coastal community. Today's low was about 35 and the high should be in the mid 60's. I don't do will with the cold.

@Lurch, I am scrambling to shave my legs (it's winter dude, don't judge when Bigfoot walked by this morning wearing long johns, a parka and a toque on his way to get a hot cup of coffee), scribble a note telling my husband I love him and I'll call soon, pack a bag filled with sun screen & shorts and learn to say "y'all" so I don't stick out like a sore thumb plus figure out what the H E double hockey sticks 'grits' are and if I'll like them ;)

@LIllabeth, we have good strong coffee, bisects and sausage gravy is a staple for breakfast. I love me some cheese grits or shrimp and grits. But I hate plain ol' grits....I don't know how anyone could eat them. We also have plenty of white (ish) beaches to walk along and get your thoughts together. BTW, lived in Chicago for two years, so no judgment on the shaving. I tried to get a no shave chit, but got denied.
