True / True Not?

People have no right to hurt other people. If others hurt you, that is in no way a representation of your worth. So yes - it's on them, not you.

I'm a little unclear about your school question. Schools teach facts and figures, and the best schools also teach *proper* social development along with that. But there are certainly shitty schools, too.

But those schools matter too, because they hurt you, and others, and that means something. It's just that it's safe to ignore what they were trying to teach you. (And good for you that you're a student who questions the quality of your teachers. Past, present, and future.)

School is just one way to access learning. There is a whole world of other options out there. School is a lot like every institution that exists: after a while it is more concerned with sustaining itself than it is concerned with the original reason the institution was formed.

And school matters only if it teaches good things.
Education matters. School? Did a whole heap of my education (primary, secondary, and nearly all my tertiary) by correspondence.

"Don't let your boy's schooling interfere with his education". (Mark Twain)

Learning how to read, write and do arithmetic? Is incredibly helpful. But that doesn't have to come from a school.

Teaching children how to commit acts of violence, for the purpose of making them commit acts of violence, violates a whole stack of childrens' fundamental human rights. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the baseline, for future reference if you decide to look at that further. But always (always), your safety right now comes first.

Idk @Ronin , made me think: much of life post-ptsd I was/am concerned how I hurt or have hurt others, even or mostly not meaning so. And how to avoid it.

But then I wonder, why do I care, when they don't, and don't have the respect they'd give to others as a basic to a stranger?

I think it's always wrong to intentionally hurt others. And schools are to educate not train to be child soldiers. That is stealing a child's life, and *trying* to steal their goodness.

Some of the best schools teach you to hurt people.
Some of the worst schools teach you how to hurt people.

The best schools, IMO, make you more you, not less.

Think of the movie KungFu Panda... Each animal has to learn a different way to fight, according to their strengths. If there was only 1 way, all the rest would be less-them, a snake trying to be a bear, a bear trying to be a bird. Instead of being the best versions of themselves. And teachers matter. Because it doesn’t matter how good the content, with a terrible teacher. And a great teacher? Changes everything. Hard/trustworthy -vs- Hard/vicious? Both are hard, but both very different.

True/Not true right/wrong depends on many things. So many pieces. The school, the teachers, the other students, your own self. And it can change, as you do. What you need, what you want, how you think, and how you feel, where you’re at, where you’re coming from, where you’re going. That’s okay. It can be best at the time, and worst now. Or worst then, and looking back damn good. It’s okay for it to mean different things to you, in different ways, at different times.

As far as other people being dicks? Yeah. That’s always them.
