I think it's a perfectly reasonable thing to have trust issues in this world. People are not trustworthy, and they prove it time and time again, so there really is only one logical conclusion. Trust has to be earned, and if they don't earn it, then they don't get it. There are the odd few people who are doing their best to become more trustworthy, but they are few and far between. Most people don't even care that they are liars...and this system supports them to be. Lying has become so acceptable in society that nobody even questions it. No wonder all the unabashed liars make it to the top in their chosen field. The message this society sends out is that if you aren't a barefaced liar 24/7 then you will never make it ahead or to positions of power...which is why the nice people never get there...because they wouldn't want the position even if it was given to them.
