Unprovoked Crying

I used to experience unprovoked crying all the time. I never knew why. I thought It must have been hormonal. but after reading the posts on this thread I am starting to wonder whether I just needed to release stuff stored. I don't seem to do this anymore. I still cry heaps as I am a sensitive person but I know why I am crying. Thanks for this thread.

Ive been like this probably since my baby grandaughter didnt live in oct 2005.

I quit tai chi......i need it back...but the thought of being back at tai chi i feel myself unraveling emotionaly..and i got no idea why

Why is my tai chi......going to break me.....its always healed me spiritualy..emotioanl..psychicaly.....

I visualise going back..and feel myself instantly feeling the grief of my grandaughter

i took up tai chi when i started having triggers,flashbacks..and memory recall of assault/ homicde i expericend and escaped as well....the person with me didnt escape......ive not had any counsling for this and its all undealt with still...........crawls off to a dark corner now>>>>>

Don't want to derail the thread but just a quick note to acknowledge what you said here Her_Indoors43. I didn't realize you were present at an assault and murder and this was part of your own suite of trauma. I'm so very sorry you had to go through that. :Hug_emoticon:

I cried the other day during an "On Star" radio commercial in which someone had been in a car crash. The trauma associated with my PTSD revolved around a gun. Yet, the sound of emergency vehicles still brings up powerful memories, as do recorded 911 calls. I hate this radio spot.

Don't worry Blackdove, you will eventually be able to cry. I couldn't cry for the first two or three years of therapy (for about the first year I could barely talk either). I don't know why not, but there were just no tears there and everything felt numb and detached. Then when I started crying I couldn't stop for quite a while, and would cry all session even though I couldn't always pinpoint exactly what I was crying about. But it was nice to have a place where I could go and just cry and not have to hide it or make up some sort of excuse for why I was crying. And it felt like a move in the right direction.

I still cry quite a lot. Sometimes I cry for no obvious reason, I just feel like crying, so I have a bawl and then I feel a little better. Sometimes I go for a while without crying. I guess we're all different, but for me, being able to start crying was a positive thing.

Best wishes,
KB

Wife does not cry. Holds it all in. I've thought it would be better if she could let it out somehow. But that is MY projection, I guess. What works for one, may be traumatic for someone else.

Thanks Keenbean! I would like to warn all persons that in the event that I do start crying, please expect major global flooding. There's alot of tears in me somewhere!

This happened to me as well. Not so much anymore.

I went through tremendous dissociation and, through therapy, I started to reconnect with my feelings and the world around me. I'm not 100 percent there yet but it's happening gradually.

I found that when I had days where I felt reconnected I felt weepy and I would cry over nothing. I think after being dissociated for so long and then starting to feel reconnected made me feel vulnerable and a little bit afraid...which made me weepy.

I think this is a normal progression of just reconnecting with your feelings instead of stuffing them. Maybe a sign that you're getting healthy again.

Anyway. Hope this helps.

I know that I am an isolator for this reason. i have had a lot of therapy but when I see people from a past period of my life when i actually felt happy...it now makes me sad. i went to church (which I used to love) and I CANOT hold it together...just writing that brought tears to my eyes. You are not alone!!!! I thought I was further in my healing and I am to a certain extent but i am waiting for more emdr sessions to be approved to tackle this one because I really want to go into church without crying!!! It used to give me so much peace..now the reminders sometimes overcome me.

Weeping....could do it at the drop of a hat.

Only recently did it annoy me. Not only because I thought it might mean I was depressed? I am only numb I was swear... ;-/

I think it means the feelings are coming back...scary as they may be. For me it was 36 years of stuffing them in...I don't know what to do with them most of the time.

My current therapist is insistent that I make noise when I cry...annoyed, no silent weeping....I haven't asked why...but I think I just know...gotta get that out and gone.

Thank you all so much for your input on this. You have helped put my own journey into the category of "normal" for someone with PTSD. The decades of no tears, then the floods of them once the memories started to return. Then years again of no tears, to the point now where I can cry whenever it's appropriate, and sometimes when it's not.

This forum is unbelievably helpful to me. Thanks.
