Weekly Goals

It’s said that one of the ways to deal with PTSD symptoms is to make goals. It’s also said that being in contact with those that support our goals helps us to move towards achieving goals. Anyone want to join in on working on goals? I’ll go first.

The one goal I’ll focus on this week is: Having a neat, organized desk.

I’m choosing this goal because:
I want to be more organized and more efficient with my time and resources.

I’ll go about working on this goal by:
Devoting one-half hour or more each day to cleaning up the materials on my desk, and giving attention to those items that need attention.

If I don’t meet my goal, or come somewhat close to accomplishing it, I’m likely to feel:
Messy, and like I’m still dragging myself down with clutter; “poor” because I’m not going after money that’s owed to me, and “irresponsible” for not paying bills before they are due.

How I’m going to feel after I achieve my goal:
Better organized and “on top of things” – The world is paying me what’s due to me and I’m being responsible about paying for my existence.

The type of support I would like from others is:
I like positive encouragement, brief cheers (i.e. “Way to go!”) and I like “likes”.

Goals should be measurable, i.e. produce a result that you can verify with your senses. Aim for goals that are reasonable, but a bit challenging at the same time. They should pertain to you, not about wanting to try to change someone else’s behavior (although that’s sometimes a nice by-product :)

Way to go Drew!! Totally agree that goals are a great way of keeping ourselves on track, maintaining momentum, creating some personal accountability and pulling towards the things we value in life.

Personally, I need to be very careful not to set unrealistic goals, or to use them as unrelenting standards of achievement with which to beat up myself if I can't reach them, but that's just a personal qwerk of mine. I do admire those who can set and achieve realistic goals - it is an important skill.

Oh, Good thread!

The one goal I’ll focus on this week is: Going to the pool
I’m choosing this goal because: I need exercise that doesn't strain my back. I love to swim

I’ll go about working on this goal by: Getting in my car and driving to the pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

If I don’t meet my goal, or come somewhat close to accomplishing it, I’m likely to feel:
Stuck in my illness instead of healing myself. But I will hold myself in compassion, and do it again.

How I’m going to feel after I achieve my goal:
Stronger, and able to regain muscle strength.
The type of support I would like from others is: Good jobs and likes

My goals ranged from changing my thoughts to overcoming each feeling I had individually. Them it progressed into yoga and relaxing. Then it transformed how I am in public. A year ago I would have skipped class making it harder on myself. Now because of all those goals I set. I am able to manage my symptoms in public. Everytime I go in public I am practicing relaxation secretly and with positive thoughts. A year later I am the first one with my hand up in class so ready to be the person I was suppose to be without the ptsd holding me back.

Bottom line goals are important with this. You gain so much by each little step.

Just a little hope!

I love this idea :)
Thanks for sharing with us, DMerish!

Wishing all of you luck in completing ur goals!!!

he one goal I’ll focus on this week is: Finishing my research paper
I’m choosing this goal because: I am finding that I cant focus on anything else until it is finished.

I’ll go about working on this goal by: Setting aside 2 uninterrupted hours each day to work on the paper

If I don’t meet my goal, or come somewhat close to accomplishing it, I’m likely to feel:
Frustrated and unsatisfied. Wanting to drop out of college.

How I’m going to feel after I achieve my goal:
So satisfied and happy from being accomplished
The type of support I would like from others is: encouragement and quiet time to work.

The one goal I’ll focus on this week is: Answering all my work emails.

I’m choosing this goal because: It keeps me on top of things I need to work on with employees and clients and it lowers my stress level if I don't let my inbox get crazy.

I’ll go about working on this goal by: Setting aside time in the morning to answer them before I get involved in other tasks.

If I don’t meet my goal, or come somewhat close to accomplishing it, I’m likely to feel: Overwhelmed.

How I’m going to feel after I achieve my goal: Accomplished and organized.

The type of support I would like from others is: Quiet time and patience.

I love this thread.

Gizmo don't rush it, try one thing at a time. :)

Please let me know how you all do! I can't wait to see you guys do this!

How are the goals going today everyone???

I am setting a goal: respect other opinions and tune down my passion. I get so passionate and I block out peoples opinions. I haven't felt the need for a goal in awhile but setting this goal will make me feel happy and able to use my passion in a better way.
