It’s said that one of the ways to deal with PTSD symptoms is to make goals. It’s also said that being in contact with those that support our goals helps us to move towards achieving goals. Anyone want to join in on working on goals? I’ll go first.
The one goal I’ll focus on this week is: Having a neat, organized desk.
I’m choosing this goal because:
I want to be more organized and more efficient with my time and resources.
I’ll go about working on this goal by:
Devoting one-half hour or more each day to cleaning up the materials on my desk, and giving attention to those items that need attention.
If I don’t meet my goal, or come somewhat close to accomplishing it, I’m likely to feel:
Messy, and like I’m still dragging myself down with clutter; “poor” because I’m not going after money that’s owed to me, and “irresponsible” for not paying bills before they are due.
How I’m going to feel after I achieve my goal:
Better organized and “on top of things” – The world is paying me what’s due to me and I’m being responsible about paying for my existence.
The type of support I would like from others is:
I like positive encouragement, brief cheers (i.e. “Way to go!”) and I like “likes”.
Goals should be measurable, i.e. produce a result that you can verify with your senses. Aim for goals that are reasonable, but a bit challenging at the same time. They should pertain to you, not about wanting to try to change someone else’s behavior (although that’s sometimes a nice by-product :)
