Well, this is a thread (posted a bit late...) For everyone to say their New Years resolutions.

I will start, and I will go with stuff that I will hopefully be able to do...

- Have no suicide attempts for a year.
- Lose weight, gain more strength
- Learn some more of basic social skills...
- Get into a good high school.
- Lower or stop the self harm habit whenever stressed (during last week I had loads of stress so the amount of wounds got multiplied a few times :()

And maybe some other stuff I manage to think of in the meantime..

My big one is to get back into running. Since I started up again on January 1st, I haven't had to use sleep meds! Major victory there! The great thing is that only a little over a week into it all and I can already see my body shaping up. Its such great motivation to continue!

Another one is to get a control on my eating issues. I tend to binge, which isn't good. I have food sensitivities so certain foods spike my anxiety. I am learning to forgive myself when I get derailed rather than beat myself up for it.

Good resolutions, I hope it all goes well for you.

I don't really think in terms of New Year's resolutions because to me the new year is just an arbitrary number, but I'll share my plans for the near future.

- Continue to get more exercise, building up gradually from where I am now (a brisk walk after each meal) hopefully to where I can start jogging by the time the snow melts
- Continue to refrain from eating in the evenings after supper, which is the biggest lifestyle change I could think of that will help me lose weight; I have been successful at this for about six weeks already
- Stay in therapy even if things get tough, work on longstanding issues
- Participate in family therapy with my mother, assuming she will go

Other than that, just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Sometimes literally; speaking of which I should go out for a walk now.

You have Some good resolutions @otakujome. I am sure you will achieve them.

My resolutions are to eat better, sleep better, attend physio therapy, finish the dental work I need done after backing out last time, learn a new skill and do some volunteer work.

Not so much in terms of resolutions, but goals right now:

Keep working on getting out and building new friendships, even when I'm feeling worthless
Give myself time to write, the only thing I've ever wanted to do for myself
Learn to recognise when it's time to take care of myself, then actually do it

Move away. It's been a desperate long-term goal that's surprisingly out of my control and long-winded but all the right forms have been filled in. I've even had a response, now all I need to do is to send off letters from my T/social worker /psych and wait. The waiting is the hard part.

My other goal was to loose my post Xmas "surplus" which I've already done, but I'll keep doing what I'm doing because any extra lost weight is a bonus - though not necessarily a goal, because I don't need any extra pressure on myself! The same goes for self-harm/suicide attempts - I hope it doesn't happen (though SH almost certainly will from time to time). All the time I don't is a bonus but setting myself goals which will depend on uncontrollable depression is unrealistic and creates pressure. I'd rather be happy with what I succeed rather than focus on the punishments of failure.

I made a New Years resolution many many years go, to resolve and act year round. When I find something I want to change, add, or subtract from my life? To do so right then :) LOL maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but someday & soon. A constant revolving inventory, instead of waiting for an annual look back & forward. So far? The resolution is still hanging tough! :D

It sounds like you have some really great and life changing goals. I love it. Anyway, making resolutions for a New Year is a fun ritual and can be a very good practice. I enjoy it. Last year, it wasn't a resolution, but I quit smoking. This year is to focus on learning French and get a little more organized. As for PTSD, I'm working on techniques for disassociation and focusing on CBT. (Cognitive behavioral therapy)

I am on several medications that have caused me to gain excess weight and I want to change that and lose the weight with help from my doctor.

I want a love relationship, so I have already been taking risks, putting myself out there and trying to meet new people. It is scary, but i'm going to continue to do it anyway. So, that is one thing I resolve to do this year.....to keep trying.

I am working on CBT and DBT and I want to employ the techniques I have learned more consistently this year.

I also need to stop smoking and get back on my C-pap machine to help me breath at night because I have sleep apnea.

So that's plenty to keep me busy this year :p:)
