What trauma did you get PTSD from?

Okay...

Just from what you said?

These don't sound like *trauma* reactions. Not in the sense of psychiatric trauma, or the usual medical definition of trauma.

It however *does* sound you are very distressed, anxious, scared, confused, depressed and all around needing help. :)

Not minimizing (saying it's nothing) your reactions at all.

Just saying they sound as different *type / kind* of problems.

A-ha, re. career.
That fear, put it to rest...

Even people with very hard reactions can do very hard jobs or return to do them at some point if things are bad after a point.

It is very possible to figure out how to deal better :)

Kudos on your career choice, too :)

Sounds your psychologist is wrong, sadly.

As stress reactions, certainly.
But not trauma.

There may be a language issue going on / different words meaning different symptoms, but in English speaking world & treatment needed options what you describe sounds as a variety of stress reactions, adjustment disorder, and the like...

Not trauma in the same sense this site deals with.

Not saying you aren't welcome -
More that conflating terms can steer you wrong direction, and is better avoided. :)

Well I hope my new therapist figurers out how she can help me. Mabye a language issue. i just hope this stops. and that the coronavirus stops too. Night time in Norway. good night? thanks for talking

I know it might likely trigger you but was he violent or abusive while drinking?

Because simply witnessing a drunk caregiver doesn't give one PTSD.

Even tho the associated neglect, attachment issues, fears etc rate help... they are not, on their own, life threatening trauma or sexual violence... known as CriterionA, necessary for PTSD diagnosis to be made.
I think a child to witness a drunk parent so often and feel helpless will make any child traumatized and maybe ptsd.

The first part of this is absolutely true. A parent passing out on their child for any reason is really scary for a lot of kids. And experiencing that on a regular basis? It makes a lot of sense to me that this has had a profound and lasting effect on you New Member.

There's every reason to be optimistic for your future. Keep studying - we never stop growing, and you can heal from this and go on to enjoy a career as a midwife (what a great career choice!).

Based on your description, PTSD specifically as a diagnosis doesn't sound like it fits. It applies to particular types of trauma.

But there's a whole range of mental health conditions that are caused by traumatic experiences (PTSD is one of many) and great treatment options available:)

From what you've said and other people's comments, they don't sound like conditions for a trauma diagnosis. That said it was obviously stressful and distressing for you. Trauma diagnosis usually involves fear for life experiences. All the best to you though and good luck with your career choice. S3.

No, no.

Not fear for life.
*Threat to* life.

People doing crack can have fear for life just from drugs...
Ain't it a trauma make.

People with a gun to their head can be very nonchalant about the whole thing...

Ain't it a non-trauma make.

See the difference, S3?

Our poor New Member doesn't need more misleading definitions in the way ;)

How ironic we are all judging from our distance and yet one a person self diagnose we are like ooh nooo only a professional can self diagnose.
I will err on the side of I do not know this person full history and what exactly happened with a drunken parent which really entails a whole host of issues including other siblings, the mother, the psychological make up of the child, etc. The reason we cannot just look the criteria and determine is because the professional needs to hear more from the person. Whatever that brought you here sounds very serious and I really hope you get the right diagnosis and better a good treatment.

To me having an alcoholic father sounds like a child will have fear of life. Even adult may depending of the situation but I do not know enuf to say you have ptds or not.... But children level of coping is very low so tough to compare to an adult.

your entitled to your opinion. I think threat to life/fear for life was pretty self explanatory. Your just being picky with words.
