What really pisses me off is the way so many of these people use their "patriotism" to cover over their racist bigotry, as if they're fooling anyone.

Here's what I did the last time I ran into one of these "Patriots".
I'm white, grew up in the UK, emigrated to Canada where I am a full citizen, who works and pays taxes.

One day this fairly new guy at work approached me and started ranting off about how these immigrant types are coming over here, trying to force their religion and culture on everyone around them, can't bother to learn English, whine, whine, bitch and moan. :rolleyes:
Then, he says to me. "These immigrants are also stealing jobs from hard working Canadians like me and you".

I looked him straight in the face and said "I'm an immigrant. You don't seem too bothered by me. How did you not notice the accent?" :bored:

"Oh, no. You're different." He says.

"How am I different?"

(Now realising he's just stepped in it)

"The only difference between me and (African co-worker just out of earshot) is colour. Try getting to know people before assuming they think like you, because they look like you. It makes you look like a racist.".

That shut him up.

It's your choice! You can choose. I've had to be creative with this. I am an American, but I wish I knew my country of origin or my culture. You are lucky, as they help to provide you with tradition and you have something to tell your children-their roots.

I'm adopted. All I know is that I'm white, have PTSD from adoptive family shit, was hurt, and figuring out where I can fit in or belong. Belonging is a hard issue to deal with for me, and is very lonely sometimes.

A lot of people are harmless. A lot of people are lethal. When someone has decided to target you because of your race -or for that matter, anything- it is not your responsibility to be their perfect victim... being kind to them until they prove that they only mean “this much” harm to you. They are standing on the shoulders of every asshole who has ever used race -or for that matter, anything- as an excuse to assault, rape, or attempt to kill you. THEY chose to pick that up, by coming at you. Your aggression? Is well warranted.

Personally, I tend to play meek, because I like being underestimated... but there are more times than I can count where a little bit of attitude up front? Has saved a lot of pain later on. Shrug. It’s a judgement call. You walked away alive & unharmed? You made the right call.

I know someone who has the ability to say the "right" thing ( Whatever that means, for me it sounds like it get the juice out of a situation) at the right time. Like a gunshot every word just gets to the right place. Sarcastic/ funny and smart ( Also for me) I'd love to have that talent. This person is older and has some experiences in her baggage.. " oh lord make me like her".

Me? I say aggressive stuff and I look like blowfish... this is fear. Anyways now that i am doing weight training plus martial arts people should be careful. :-)
