Why do people stop their medication cold turkey?

A doctor tried to medicate me once. I took them for a while and just stopped. For me I felt like I was being weak for not being able to control my mind on my own. Like I was ashamed of needing medication.

I know there is no shame in it, it’s just a feeling I get when asked to take it

Yep-I get overwhelmed and tell myself to “screw it” and quit
Yup...that would probably be my most likely reason too! I've got better at weighing in the risks now though generally. Different meds and doses and how long you've been on carry different risks, but in most cases I think it's generally not recommended. Were there risks associated with stopping yours cold turkey do you know? Are you back on it now, or wanting to stay off?
