Our cats

f*cking hell that's true. It's a diluted tortie as well? I eyeballed it as a solid grey buy now you say it... That's true! It's such a lovely and unusual coat ☺️
They call it grey tortiseshell. We got her before it became a "thing" here. She's sweet, smart as hell, ingenious, (If she wants something she WILL get it.) and the single most curious cat I have ever owned. Thats why her nickname is Miss Curiosity. If she's curious about what you are doing then everywhere you move or look there's a cat in front of you.

Yep. Peanut flickers from a chicken temperament with impetuous curiosity. She’ll go against anything just to know what’s going on! The first time I saw her at the cat shelter I had 0 clue such a colour did exist, it was like encountering something a bit magical.

I bought a backpack cat carrier about a year after TheStrayCat became TheCat… because Family.

He lost his mind. A rattlesnake would have been a more welcome addition to his world. Wouldn’t go near that, or any other carrier, for any reason. Any attempts to intro him to it was met with pure, unadulterated rage-panic with slicked fur, wet feet, GIANT eyes, boneless attempts to flee only interrupted by growls, hisses, glares, and swipes. I don’t mind magicking him into the hard carrier for the vet (or planes, etc.). But I wanted his soft crate / backpack carrier to be “his”. So I decided to work off the nonchalance principle. Since I had time.

The first year (no rush, my kid was 16, we had 2 years before we could leave the state) I just left it at the foot of where I sleep, when he sleeps up by my face when he’s with me (He’s very polite, and tries to split his time evenly amongst his peoples). The second year I started keeping all of his catnip mice in it. So he’d have to fetch them out. By then the EVIL👿THNG was just a boring-box-not-to-be-trusted (Look! It hoards my mice! For itself! Proof!). Even without claws he still manages to zip out the individual mice in movements too fast to see with as little of him near the box-not-to-be-trusted as possible… but at least he was interacting with it, ya know?

I just moved it to the head of where I sleep and sprayed the sucker’s sheepskin “bed” wih catnip spray. And walked away. Didn’t point out what I’d done, and left him to discover it.

ROFLMAO 🤣 OMFG.

He has planted his flag. This moon? Is MINE! Mine! ALL MINE! Bwaaahahahahah Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine.

He’s rolling spirals in it, hopping in the top and coming out the side, and vice versa, rubbing his scent on every available outside surface before pouncing back in to happy-belly all over the inside.

Dude is high as f*ck.

And looooooving it. His backpack. Catnip ain’t exactly new. (I bought him 25 3-mouse packs for $1 each that Christmas. Yep. 75 mice. Woohoo! And periodically add newer more catnippy mice for him to discover. And spray old friends, or capture some and keep them prisoner in a ziplock back with dried catnip for a few weeks/months.) But I appear to have just now gotten him a lovely -brand new- piece of his empire to rule.

Woo hoo!

I got a backpack cat carrier and pretty much same as your cat—she was terrified! We’re still on year one—just using it to store toys and throwing treats in there now and then. Your story gives me hope!

With one of our cats getting her in wasn't the problem, getting her out (at the vets) impossible. Carrier on end shaking it (as well as you can with a 18 pound cat jammed in one end of it) food, coaxing, nothing. Had to buy a carrier that split in two and take it apart to get her out. Once she was out she just froze and was easy for the vet to examine.
Mittens was the sweetest gentlest cat too. It was so funny when the vet starts telling us she was fat. He was explaining how you should be able to feel her ribs, and you could feel her ribs. She was just a big cat.
Her all time funniest moment was one day when I got home. She liked sitting on the landing halfway up the stairs. This day its like "what is she sitting on?" oh, its the little male cat, Otis. She was laying in top of him and when he saw me he starts struggling for all hes worth to get out. She calmly reaches over and smacks him one on the ear and he gave up for a bit. I never did find out what he did but he really must have pissed her off.

I’ve been missing our old cat very terribly the last couple of days. Having some distance from the bereavement is letting me let it out a little.

the new two are amazing though. The rehome has adopted the kitten so much that she is producing milk for him and though that will stop any day now ( I’m told that cats stop suckling at about five months) it has been so cute to watch - and hear the slurping . Rehome has also started to get a bit chubby from eating kitten food 😂. They have both started to explore a little outside for the first time in their lives and Cherry - the rehome is amazed and timid ,while Biscuit, the kitten, struts about like the yard is his domain and hunts ants and bugs.

i cannot imagine how we’d have coped without getting them. They don’t replace our old cat at all, but they remind me life is a cycle .

Fellow cat owners I need your help. I have moved into a new place and my cat is completely enamored with hiding inside my cabinets. She is driving me crazy either nose bumping the doors trying to get into them, which she pretty much eventually always does as I have found her in every floor level cabinet or if I put something on the floor and accidentally block the door that always seems to be the cabinet she is in and then she bumps the door incessantly until I let her out. I don't want to put childproof locks on them because basically they are FauxLiz proof locks and I can't ever seem to get in them. Granted, as I am still waiting for my furniture and all of my material possessions other than what I took with me that I thought I couldn't live without while I was in temporary furnished housing so for now they are basically empty and will be for another couple of weeks while waiting on my things to be delivered but it is driving me insane.

Any suggestions to keep her from trying to and succeeding in climbing into my cabinets? There are not any handles so I can't use anything to tie them closed, as I mentioned the childproof locks are not an option but at this point I could really use some ideas. I am sure that once they are full of my stuff she will find them less appealing but 18 days of this will drive me out of my mind and if she keeps doing it with the bathroom cabinets and waking me up terrified in the middle of the night I may have to rehome her because it will be that or she may unintentionally get hurt when I am in self-protective fight mode.

well I don't have any tangerine peels and can't get any due to allergies but I did know where my lavender essential oil was and it was with the things I have on hand. I immediately jumped up, grabbed cotton balls and started putting then in every cabinet and even rubbing the doors a bit to get the lavender on them. I really hope that this helps and starts tonight. Thank you so much @ruborcoraxxx

It should! Peanut never approaches the bed if there is perfume. I first used it as a pee pee deterrent lol
