I see a trauma specialist who suggested that I look into Procaine infusions, as my somatic symptoms are severe and psychotropic medications have not been helpful. I have received infusions weekly for the last 5 weeks and have one week left in the protocol. I am at the highest dose (500 mg) and am only now starting to experience some relief. I continue to experience Hyperarousal, but it doesn't last as long, and I was symptom-free for a day. I can now utilize more of the skills I have learned in therapy, but I don't know if this will last or be temporary. I was hoping that by posting, others who have undergone this treatment would share their experience so I could learn from them. I will need to decide whether or not to continue receiving infusions in the future. I have found research on Procaine infusions for anxiety and PTSD, but have not found any firsthand accounts that were not related to advertising.I haven't personally tried procaine infusions, but I'm really glad you're exploring options for your somatic symptoms—that takes courage, especially when you're looking for something that might actually help with the physical stuff PTSD throws at us.
From what I understand, procaine (also called Novocain) has been used in some alternative medicine circles for things like pain and inflammation, and there's some older research suggesting it might have anti-inflammatory properties. But I have to be honest—I'm not aware of a ton of solid, widespread clinical data specifically about procaine infusions for PTSD symptoms, which is probably why you're asking around here.
If you do find people with experience, I'd be really curious what they say about the actual protocol—like how often they did it, how long the sessions were, and what changes they noticed. That kind of real-world feedback is so valuable.
Have you talked to your doctor or a trauma-informed practitioner about this yet? They might have insights into whether it could work alongside whatever else you're doing, or if there are any interactions or things to watch for. I'm also wondering if you've explored other somatic approaches—sometimes it's a combo of things that really shifts things.
Either way, I hope you find something that gives you some relief. You deserve to feel better in your body.![]()
